Ms. Marcus has written a fascinating, exceptionally articulate book minutely detailing many ways in which women can better and more successfully rise in their chosen field by strategically navigating everyday office politics dictated and dominated mostly by men who have successfully mastered the art of utilizing fraternal skills women can also employ to their advantage. The author guides the reader through numerous self-reflective exercises and observations with an experienced eye toward employing these same fraternal techniques to overcome numerous hurdles, both social and professional, successfully engaged in by men who employ these same techniques and strategies almost by instinct. A must-read for women of any age who strive to be more professionally appreciated by their peers and supervisors as they climb the corporate ladder.

After working for over 30 years for several Fortune 500 companies, and progressing up through the leadership ranks, I learned valuable lessons the hard way about what it takes to be valued and promoted. Some lessons are not inherently obvious and, for women, there are obstacles that women experience very differently than men do. Bonnie's book is spot-on when it comes to some of the important lessons that women need to know to short-circuit the "politics of promotion". The book is written in a style that is fun to read and very consumable. I highly recommend Bonnie's book as a must-read for every woman who is navigating the world of achievement and promotion.

I highly recommend reading this book if you are like me - highly ambitious, excellent work ethic, and frustrated with your progress and petty office politics. The author explains herself perfectly for people like us. I had so many insights while reading this and now really understand the importance of the steps I can take that will really have an impact. I've started implementing her strategies and have noticed a definite improvement.

It's been my experience as a seasoned coach that many women are ambivalent on the subject of being political in their careers. And that ambivalence sabotages their success. Bonnie Marcus's book lays that perception of politics to rest and goes even farther in laying out a step by step strategy for being political in a way that will ensure success. Her reasoning is sound and her approach is clear, simple and practical. It is a game changer in looking at how to function in any business environment and can even be applied to life in general. I highly recommend it.
