Sharp, attractive knife recommended by America's Test Kitchen
Bought this knife instead of a chef's knife because I have small hands, plus America's Test Kitchen recommended it, and it does not disappoint. This knife is SHARP. I've already cut myself twice - I'm used to working with dull cheap knives. Anyway, if you want a knife that makes cutting vegetables and meat a breeze and you don't want to fork out a ton of money, this is a great value option. It's beautifully constructed, does what it is supposed to do (cut), and makes cooking slightly more enjoyable. Also, if you are wondering if you should get this knife versus other knives: I bought this because it kind of does the work of a chef's knife and a paring knife, so by buying a utility knife you really save yourself from purchasing more than one knife. That's important if you are either limited in budget or space. I have a small kitchen so I really needed to be thoughtful about every purchase.

Joy of preparing food with a sharp knife
As recommended i sharpen with every 3rd/4th useage (electricsharpener for me). My back starts hurting way before getting tired cutting tomatoes for cooking. It's fun to make thinslices just like its done on tv cook shows. .. When finished i wash and dry before placing in protective cover, specificly bought for it. As for cost it's a good value for the quality provided. As a side note- i use a bigger knife for cutting carrots.

Razor Sharp (accidentally sliced my fingernail)
I opened the box and my eyes opened wide. Wow. (yes I even smelled the packing box.) The quality is top notch and the handle feels solid on the hand. Made in Japan with the colorful Mac logo etched on the steel.I've been using my 8" Mac MTH-80 Professional for some time. But I needed something smaller and more nimble. So I decided to purchase this 6" utility knife.First test was to slice a piece of paper. Check! Slice a tomato effortlessly. Check! Carve my Costco rotisserie chicken with precision. Check! Finely chop my shallots. BOOM. I sliced my fingernail by accident. It almost went thru the skin. I freaked out for a second. No blood but it could have been worse. Honestly, I was not accustomed to handling this small and nimble utility knife. After the fingernail lesson, I learned fast to treat this knife carefully. Also get the Mac Black Ceramic Honing Rod (a nice "show-off" piece when I entertain). Of course it keeps my knives sharp too. This 6" Mac utility knife is excellent. Treat it with care and respect - it will last you for many, many years.

Great prep knife for small task.
I love this little knife and end up using it more then my MTH-80 chef knife. Great for delicate task and for banging out prep. I work in a butcher/sandwich shop, and it is the perfect knife to leave on my station during service. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that I wish it had a little more knuckle clearance. Folks with large hands may struggle using the full length of the blade.

Great utility knife
I have several knives, I didn't need to buy this one. But I'm glad I did--it's by far my favorite knife now. It's very light and easy to use, and it's sharp and keeps its edge well (I've had it for several months now and with near daily use I've only needed to hone it a few times). Jacques Pepin can often be seen using one of these on his cooking at home videos, which was one reason I chose this knife.

Great 6" Petty Knife, Not Granton
This is a Great 6" Petty Knife, Not Granton-edge (tm), so slices tend to stick to it -- unless you use my common trick on MAC non-Granton knives, which is to spray a little cooking spray on the blade. The handle is definitely pointed at the end, not rounded as incorrectly shown in the photo. I purchased this to use as a Petty knife -- tomato and onion slicing kind of work -- which it is great on. On the "paper test" perhaps the sharpest knife I have ever bought -- it falls through the paper without any force and without even the slightest hint of resistance. I could say "like a hot knife through butter" -- but even that would understate how sharp it is. And the 6" blade is the "right size" for a Petty Knife for me -- I have big hands, and already have a German 4.5" paring knife (and smaller paring knives) -- as well as larger slicing and utility knives, so this one fits in size-wise in-between. I wouldn't want a shorter Petty Knife, or it wouldn't have enough blade length to "one stroke" cut most things I need to do. Very Cool Knife!
