BREAKING NEWS: THERE WILL BE ONE MORE SEASON OF DOC MARTIN.
London Daily Express, September 7, 2020:‘Doc Martin’ has been renewed for one more season.Series 10 is scheduled to premiere in the UK in late 2021, and in the US in 2022.ITV has confirmed that this will be the final season.Filming scheduled to begin in March 2021 (unless postponed due to the Corona Virus).I will post breaking news in Comment One, following this review.Amazon has jumbled the order of the photos. Currently 8 6 5 1 7 2 3 4PHOTOS 1-4: Panoramic view of Port Isaac (Portwenn)--- The village is built perilously close to the edge. I don’t think American building codes would permit this. The white church-shaped building (photo 3, four houses from the right) is the elementary school.PHOTO 5: Series One, 2004 - Martin Ellingham and Louisa GlassonPHOTO 6: Series Nine, 2019 - Martin, Louisa and James EllinghamPHOTO 7: Convenient walking path from Port Isaac to Tintagel Castle (nine miles up the coast)The Cornish Tourist Bureau has rated it “Strenuous”. *PHOTO 8: Pay no attention to the broken footbridge.* the full guided version of the walk is available for £1.99 through the iWalk Cornwall app for Apple and Android.‘Doc Martin’ is set in Cornwall in the extreme southwest of Britain. The seaside village of Portwenn is portrayed by the village of Port Isaac (population 721).Breathtakingly beautiful real estate. The blu-ray is worth the extra cost, but unaccountably only Seasons 7, 8 and 9 were released in the hi-def format. One hour of bonus features.English SDH subtitles for everything.ORIGINS OF DOC MARTINIn 2000, Martin Clunes played a character named Dr. Martin Bamford in the film Saving Grace (2000) (also Amazon Prime Download). In 2001, Martin Clunes reprised the role in the made-for-TV prequel ‘Doc Martin’.In 2003, Clunes returned to TV for ‘Doc Martin and the Legend of the Cloutie’.These movies were filmed in Port Isaac, Cornwall (not yet renamed Portwenn), but the character of Dr. Martin Bamford was completely different from Dr. Martin Ellingham.Dr. Bamford was a recently divorced obstetrician with none of the quirks we associate with Doc Martin. The supporting cast was completely different. DOC MARTIN: THE MOVIES (‘Doc Martin’ + ‘Doc Martin and the Legend of the Cloutie’)All ten series + the Martin Bamford movies (minus ‘Saving Grace’) will eventually be released in a money-saving boxed set on DVD.I wonder if they will go back and re-do Seasons 1-6 in blu-ray?In the meantime, your least expensive option, with the best picture is:--- Doc Martin: Six Surly Seasons + The Movies in a 16 DVD box--- Doc Martin, Series 7 [Blu-ray ]--- Doc Martin: Series 8 [Blu-ray ]--- Doc Martin: Series 9 [Blu-ray] - reviewed on this page.--- Doc Martin: Series 10 [Blu-ray] - should be released in 2022LITERARY HISTORY OF CORNWALL:Before Doc Martin, there was King Arthur, Rebecca, the Pirates of Penzance, and Poldark:- 9 miles up the coast is Tintagel Castle, legendary birthplace of King Arthur.[“Uther Pendragon, King of Britain, fell in love with Igraine, wife of Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall.Gorlois believed his wife was safely protected within the walls of Tintagel Castle. But, thanks to a spell from the wizard Merlin, Uther Pendragon assumed the appearance of Gorlois in order to gain entry.Igraine believed him to be her husband, and "in that night was the most famous of men, Arthur, conceived."(Geoffrey of Monmouth, 1136, 'Historia Regum Britanniae']- 25 miles to the south is Manderley, the estate of Maxim de Winter in Daphne du Maurier’s novel ‘Rebecca’ (actually the Du Maurier estate, Menabillly). In Alfred Hitchcock’s film of ‘Rebecca’, Big Sur California doubled for Cornwall.- 54 miles to the southwest is the Victorian resort of Penzance, home to Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates.- ‘Poldark’ was a series of historical novels by Winston Graham, dramatized on TV in 1975-77 and 2015-19.Filmed in eight different villages in Cornwall (Bodmin is the nearest location with a tie to Doc Martin - see below).DOC MARTIN TRIVIA:- “Dr. Martin Ellingham” was created by writer/producer Dominic Minghella. “Ellingham” is an anagram of “Minghella”.- "Doctor vs. Mister" - British surgeons are medical doctors, but in hospital they are addressed as "Mister" not "Doctor".This is a holdover from the Nineteenth Century:Doctors diagnosed the patient's problem, then turned the poor fellow over to the surgeon for treatment (usually amputation).Surgeons were skilled craftsmen, not medical doctors: The faster they worked, the greater likelihood the patient would survive the operation. In Season One, when Dr. Martin Ellingham visits the hospital where he had once been a surgeon, a former colleague addresses him as "Mr. Ellingham" - before correcting himself.- "Tosser" - In the early seasons, Doc Martin is frequently addressed as “Tosser” by teenage girls.British slang: A male who masturbates: An objectionable male.- "Going Bodmin" - is a phrase sometimes encountered on the show.Bodmin (population 15,000) is a town 13 miles south of Port Isaac.Home to the 200 year-old Bodmin County Lunatic Asylum."Going Bodmin" means you are mentally ill.Bodmin is also home to Bodmin Jail (featured in Poldark).

Doc Martin has changed from clueless to mean in season 9
We have loved the Doc Martin series all along and watched each season 1-8 multiple times. The series is among my top ten favorites TV series. I have always thought of Martin as socially clueless and therefore immensely enjoyed his antics. Season 9 is different somehow and I still rate it four stars because of the wonderful diverse actors and the background location. The Cornish Port Isaac aka Portwenn has a majestic appeal to it. In season 9 Martin no longer appears clueless but mean and entitled...this just strikes me as wrong. It also appeared to me that they were growing weary of the series and just wanted to get through it and be done, there was a rushed feeling to the acting and scenes.

Incorrect DVD Region
When I ordered the DVD I understood that it was an Australian Region DVD, but when it arrived it was the incompatible for this region. I contacted the sender, they kindly gave me a return address, which I promptly returned the item to. I have been advised a refund is now in the process of being undertaken.
