Nick Fury - Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D [Non USA PAL Format]

Average but charming.
While I could review this movie for being a direct to tv and movie, designed to be the series premiere to a Nick Fury tv show, or the fact that it is ridiculously priced to get a US copy of the movie - I myself will review it the way I experienced it for myself. I said "screw you" to the sellers offering this movie in US copy for the whopping price of 200 or more dollars. I purchased a region free dvd player for the low price of $25 and got a UK copy of the film for about $10 from Amazon. I think I've won there because I finally got to experience this in the comfort of my home and on my own movie system. Anyway, I have taken with pride what this movie and it's story, characters, and world is to me. "How we viewed media of that time. It wasn't even the fairly identifiable special effects and mediocre fight scenes that made me say "This movie sucks." But if you think about production costs, I myself can imagine the budget for a "Film premier to an episodic tv show." It carries the same mantle as making a tv movie about NCIS. You're gonna have a cheap film budget. More on the movie itself. I wasn't effected negatively either by it. More over, I felt nostalgic. Seeing an action film like this brought me back to childhood when I watched action film after action film all with cut and paste plot. Male protagonist, female side protagonist, villain (SO EEEEEEEVIL!), fights, guns, explosions (Which mind you there are only a couple explosions in this film, mostly gas). To the point... I felt like a kid a little bit as I had the same feeling I felt with other movies like Bad Boys, Speed, etc. Color me too friendly but man, to see something new and remind me of the good days I had at home as a kid. I'm sold. Again, I accept its flaws and think about reasons why it could be that way. As a film premiering a tv show is. It's going to have only a little character growth, a heavy set exposition base, and a classic cut and past terrorist story arc. More growth and exposition maybe even better story plots and a richer story along with an even greater amount of budget with revenue as the show aired with new episodes. Who knows if it actually could've seen a better light than it did. All in all, I was happy to add a RARE Marvel film to my collection and I'll watch it again.

In Context
This is a, relatively, cheaply made overacted 'bad movie' - however it actually attempts to bring the Nick Fury of the 70s and 80s spy-fi comics to life. The Hoff overacts as Fury in a manner that is actually consistent with this era. It is not a 'Good' movie by the conventional standards but as a bit of giggle it is fine. Don't take it too seriously and you might enjoy it. If you like the Matt Salinger or Reb Brown Cpt America movies you should enjoy this.

SHIELD your good eye
Let's try to remember a time when Marvel wasn't making blockbuster hits with their catalog of characters. Not so long ago we were treated to gems like Captain America and Howard the Duck . Then you have David Hasselhoff as Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. This was a made for TV movie, probably a backdoor pilot for what could have become a TV series. There's a good reason it did not. The plot is pretty standard comic book movie fare, evil organization intends to wipe out Manhattan with poison gas, it's the acting, or rather over-acting of the Hoff that hurts this. It's not helped by Sandra Hess' villain, the awkward action or the script's real lack of peril for the leads. Thankfully, the pacing keeps the film moving and it's engaging enough to keep you entertained. Ultimately, while this is not a successful effort, it's far from the worst entry in the Marvel catalog of films. For a fan of Fury, it's nice to see a live action version that pre-dates Sam Jackson, and to see a helicarrier and L.M.D and all the trappings of S.H.I.E.L.D even on the small screen. For a comic movie collector it's a must have. This wasn't a wide release (Best Buy exclusive) and was hard to come by then, even harder to own now.

DaviD HasselHoff Is Nick Fury Agent Of Sheild
This is the closets adaptation of a marvel product since the huk conan and dr strange... the best characters to adapt are the ones that are not the ones that paid theb ils betwen jack kirby and stan lee its these type of characters that are good for tv.. Conan Nick fury dr strange, ghost rider which they jacked up in every direction, David Hasselhoff was great as nick fury people talk about his acting but he looks like he read the comic books and even nick fury was too much in those pages any of those pages and any guests appearances he made in the comic books in other heroes books...Remember he plays an old war horse thrown into a directive status and therefore is a nosy secretive character like men in black or mr seven from star trek - james bond... there was a lot of love ion the production and in many of the super hero stuff that comes on tv i found out while the show was on or the commercial just came on and I did not know a thing.. so this is high entertaintment . david haselhoff should have been given the nick fury show with this pilot if that was what it was.. think of all the old actors that could play a cameo appearance thiat did not show up in Knight rider.. thats what these things are about!the new sheild thing just aint working at all- sharon carter- etc... This is a good show. I would have loved to see david haselhoff in this i would not miss an episode just like I only missed 4 episodes of the flash with john wesley shipp....

Probably the best Marvel movie before Marvel Studios got started.
This is the Nick Fury of the classic comic books, before Samuel L. Jackson made the character his own. David Hasselhoff is actually very good in the role, and this movie doesn't merely "build-up" towards a bigger franchise; they already have a flying aircraft carrier, life-like androids, HYDRA as their main enemy, the hi-tech ability to miniaturize large objects and fit them into your pocket... If you're a Marvel fan, this will remind you of the good old days.

NICK FURY
Bon film de 1998 c'est sûr que les effets spéciaux ne sont pas ceux d'aujourd'hui mais il est très appréciable joué par David Hasselhoff, maintenant le rôle est joué par Samuel L. Jackson un très bon acteur lui aussi.

I still don't really understand what was happening.
With a plot and acting on a par with Stallone's 'Cobra' I did a double take when I realised this wasn't made in 1985. Its the perfect drop in drop out watch out of the corner of your eye over a few beers movie, because there is no point trying to make sense of it. But it's go The Hoff in it so it's brilliant. By definition.
