How to adjust the heat output
It puts out plenty of heat for our 2-car garage. So much so, that I wanted to regulate the gas consumption. The unit itself only goes on full blast. For that, and because it's still somewhat loud: -1 stars. Consider it 5 stars, if you want full heat and don't care about the noise. Here is what I purchased to adjust the heat:* Gas One 4FT High Pressure Propane 0-20 PSI Adjustable Regulator with 4ft QCC-1 type Hose - CSA Certified - Works With Newer U.S. Propane Tanks * Anderson Metals Brass Tube Fitting, Coupling, 3/8" Flare x 1/4" Female Pipe To install, follow these steps:1. Remove the red, non-adjustable pressure regulator from the original gas hose. This is the hardest part: The connection has been glued. I could not break the glue with a wrench on the brass. It would strip the brass before breaking the glue. What worked is gripping the brass hose connector in a vise and using larger pliers to rotate the red regulator, break the glue and unscrew the connection.2. Screw the 3/8"x1/4" adapter's 1/4" NPT end to the original hose (where you just removed the red, non-adjustable, original regulator).3. Screw the other side of the adapter (3/8" flare) to the hose of the new, adjustable regulator.Done. With the new regulator you can very precisely adjust the gas supply, down to a small flame that doesn't put out much heat. Plus you have about doubled the length of the gas hose.

A New Heater in a Proven Package
I like to watch television in my shop. This was impossible with my extremely noisy 30,000 BTU Reddy Heater RLP30 so when I saw claims of the Quiet Burner technology I ordered one right here from Amazon.com. I will ruin the surprise right up front - I can now hear my TV where I couldn't before. Here's another surprise - the 38,000 BTU Mr. Heater with Quiet Burner technology is made from the exact same base and cylinder barrel sheet metal as the Reddy Heater down to the exact dimensions and screw locations. Since Desa, the company which made Reddy Heater is out of business my guess is that they are/were made by the same factory. Having the same form-factor is not a bad thing however, as it is a compact and lightweight unit that is stable and easy to transport. One big difference is the new molded plastic handle on the Mr. Heater which is substantial and easy to grab.It is packaged with only paper and cardboard - a nice eco-friendly touch. I plan to keep the box for summer storage. The hose is actually 9-10 feet, not 20 feet as in the description. You will have to attach the hose to the heater with a 14 mm wrench. The other end is already attached to the regulator and the regulator threads into the tank outlet. I was hoping this new model would have the new style type 1 (QCC1) Propane Coupler but alas it is still the old left-hand screw in type instead so keep your crescent wrench handy. The only controls are the push-to-light and ignitor buttons. There is no control to vary the heat. Like my old Reddy heater, this one lights easily the first time and stays lit. Be sure you turn on the tank slowly like the instructions say to avoid the tank's safety shut-off from kicking in.So how quiet is it? I have a Radio Shack Sound Pressure meter which I used to check both units. If you are familiar with the decibel scale, you know a few dB is a lot of difference. I measured from the side of each unit from about 8 inches away. Reddy Heat: 88 dB, Mr. Heater: 82 dB. This is an extremely noticeable difference to the human ear, and as I mentioned I can now hear my television even when I am fairly close to the unit. How did they do it? I compared the sound the motors make (with no flame) and the Reddy Heater was 81 dB vs. 79 dB for the Mr. Heater. The big difference is in the burners which appear completely different in construction. The new Mr. Heater seems to create more of a column of air which comes out in a "woosh" and the Reddy Heater seems to dump the hot air out closer to the heater with more of a "jet engine" noise. As for heating effectiveness, I couldn't feel a big difference in comfort between the two despite the additional 8000 BTU.So is the price difference worth it for the Quiet Burner technology? For me it is. I'm taking one star off for the screw-in coupling which needs a wrench and the lack of any control for the heat output.

Easy to use
I got this heater to keep my wood shop warmer. The shop is not completely closed in. If it were, this heater would not be a good idea, as it is not intended for indoor use. Assembly is just two screws to mount the handle and connect the hose. To operate the heater, you connect the hose to your propane tank. This is LEFT HAND thread. Then you connect the cord (which is about 6" long) to a power plug with an extension cord. There is no off/on switch. You plug it in and the fan starts. Once the fan is on, open the valve on the propane tank. Then hold in the gas control and press the igniter. My heater fires up easily. Hold the gas control for a little bit before releasing it. The directions say 30 seconds, but I found 10 seconds was enough. To shut it off, close the valve on the propane tank. Wait a few seconds and unplug the fan. This throws a lot of heat and takes the chill off my shop. I like it.

Not worth it, poor quality
Very loud, not very warm, not good for outdoor spaces. Ours was broken right out of the box. I had to replace the igniter to even get it to work. What they don’t tell you is that it is not your average igniter for other propane appliances. It is a special one that is grounded through the frame of the heater and if you use a standard one you will shock the crap out of yourself. It uses old style propane hookup, not the simple hand twist on. Get your pliers out. It vibrates and moves all over the patio if you don’t block it in place with something. You need propane and electricity to run it. Definitely not worth the money.

Really like this and would recommend it
bought this to heat my garage up a little when I need to work in there for little projects. It does pretty well. Its not super quiet but it's not loud either. It heats the area up and doesn't burn a huge amount of propane either. I brought one of my CO monitors out in the garage and it never registered any CO so the thing must be burning very good, kind of like a ventless fireplace. The humidity increased which I hear is a byproduct of combustion if everything is burning properly. Either way, it heats my 3 car garage up about 20 degrees in around an hour and doesn't rip through the propane so I'm very happy with it.

Defective Safety Valve could have seriously hurt me.
This product could have killed me. The safety valve stopped working only after less than 10 uses, and when igniting the heater, a giant flame shot out of the blower, extending out of the chamber by a few feet and a fire ball ignited around the base as I ignited it. I've heard good things about this brand so i'm assuming it's a single defective product. I am also experiencing the coldest weeks of the year without a reliable, safe, heater.
