Coutura Men's Solar Chronograph Watch

I was searching for a watch as a gift for my son doing extremely well in his freshman year at an academically tough high school. Like most teens he is always pulling out his phone to check the time. He though he did not need a watch. Now a month later he is wearing it most everyday.I have worn Seiko watches myself, years ago I wore a pilots watch for a decade. So I am sold on their quality.This is a cool watch both in style and features. The black on black face would be a fail for many people as it is hard to read in low light, but it exactly fits his personal style. The slight blue accent was a huge plus as medium blue to cyan are his favorite colors. The rubber band was in my idea. He had never worn a watch; a metal band and large watch would seem heavy and a leather or cloth band would not survive his use. Solar power is a huge plus as it makes the watch lighter and the case need never be opened. The extra features fit his needs. The band is a special band for this watch, so I bought an exact spare from a Seiko dealer at the same time I bought the watch. I told him to wear the watch until the band wears out likely several years from now, then replace the band, and use another watch watch for daily wear retiring this one to occasional rotational wear. Or buy another new band. That way he can have this watch for many years to come.This nice casual watch is a good fit for a teenager. Not too flashy to attract the wrong kind of attention. He can wear it anywhere without worry. I instructed him to never take it off except at home. He can play field sports, run, swim, and whatever.Lastly I had picked out something similar from a Swiss company for significantly more money, but before purchasing it I looked at similar watches from other companies and stumbled on this one. This watch is regularly discounted significantly below the MSRP on Amazon. This particular watch was discounted even more as a Amazon return. Inspecting it on arrival I found no signs of it having been worn. I do not consider buying a return a risk as it was returnable and had the original warranty.We are very pleased with this purchase.Up date December 2023. The watch was lost from July 2023. Packing for a Christmas trip he just found his watch in an inside pocket in a seldom used suitcase. A few hours on the window sill charged the solar battery and he is setting the watch now. Relief as I had given him a lecture about keeping up with nice things when school started and he could not find it. The watch looks and functions perfect. Nothing more to say.

I think this watch is exquisite. The black background that looks like some kind of solar array looks really cool. The electric blue highlights on the dials are wonderful. It’s great that it holds a charge for months. I also love that it has a power reserve meter. It is a bit hard to read. But everything else about it is great.

If you like or need a larger dial, the Courtura line in general is a good shape and fit for that. It has the impressive dial fit and appearance you'd expect from Seiko, and the good - if minimal - proprietary Seiko nighttime glow functionality. The SCC747 I purchased has a 1.5mm glowing green dot at 12, 3, 6, and 9. The hour and minute hands have proper big swaths of glow at night, and the chrono second hand has a tiny dot halfway up the hand. Fit and finish are top notch on mine, and it's well worth the expense ...if you're not a chrono junky.This is not a watch for one looking for a highly functional and easy to use chrono movement. The only hands involved are the central lowest small one - which also functions as a power reserve indicator - and the skinny second hand on the main post in the middle. It does read 1/5 second intervals with that long skinny second hand, which is good. But you'll need to read the 1/5 second intervals by eyeballing incredibly tiny subdivision markers along the outer rim of the dial. There isn't a 1/5 second hand function on one of the other small hands. It's pretty much unusable at night as a chrono without a flashlight, and with three smaller hand and a quartz movement I don't understand why they didn't use one of those extra hands as a 1/5 second indicator like Timex does with their much less pricey chrono quartz movements.Buy it for the large dial and for Seiko quality, as I did. But if you need a quality chrono for work, this isn't the one.Also-also, the band is proprietary. You won't be swapping it out for anything else, including another Courtura model. The bracelet and silicone bands have different shapes where they connect with the case, so you need to chose silicone or metal and stick with it for the duration.Note, I still give the watch four stars. It's an amazing watch, if you like larger dials and want Seiko solar reliability.

Love the detail and just about everything about this watch. I’ve had it for about a week and an extremely satisfied. Just know that it is fairly large and thick. If you like that then this is for you!

Attractive, reasonably Price and not heavy in weight.. I like it and I'm rating 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 for this watch ⌚

I really wanted to like this watch. It's really catches your gaze, especially in sunlight. But I returned it for a couple of reasons. 1. It is very difficult to read in anything but bright light. I have perfect vision, but the date is tiny and buried under the face to the extent that you really have to work to read it. The hands are also quite small and against the black face, a little difficult to read except in bright light. 2. The band is a custom design and difficult to find a replacement for. I expect a watch of this price and quality to last a lifetime, but I don't trust the bands to last that long unless they are metal. I didn't want to risk having a band break 5 years from now and not being able to find a replacement. I probably could have gotten past the difficulty in reading the time and date if it hadn't been for the custom band design.

This is a very nice solar watch. However, the watch I received was obviously used, not new. No one at Amazon.com had even bothered to clean off crud from the previous owner. For the low price, it is in good enough condition to keep, but it was shipped as a loose watch in a plastic bag, with a used box. No plastic protecting any part of the watch. The watch is great, but don't count on getting a new one, as advertised. Amazon sold me this watch as "new" and should feel ashamed for shipping it in this condition.

The only problem with it is the band, should have a tighter clasp to hold it together, other than that it's a nice timepiece

This Seiko is a weird watch. This whole coutura collection features many different looking watches and at varying price ranges but this perticular model really caught my eye because of the design of the face. The way the light reverberates on each little black tile is quite mesmerizing, the you look closer and you notice each tile is brushed like those zen sand gardens you might have seen. On the other hand, the windows for each dials look really out of place, one is naked, the other one is encircled with some shiny stainless steel ring while the power reserve is decorated with an admittedly great looking blue accent. The design could have been more cohesive on this front but I can't take my eyes of this beautifully crafted tiled face... The case is black ion plated and feels more chunky than I expected so much so that even with a resin or rubber bracelet the watch feels heavier than it looks. Really am pleased with the way the watch was packaged and the overall feel of quality this Seiko displays, even if the dial design could have been better thought of. Would recommend and will definitely keep this watch for a long, long while.

It's a simple watch but the quality is Seiko (good), receive good comments.
