Made a big difference in noise
I purchased this to replace the motor in my 14-year-old Braun/NuTone 688 model. At first it seemed like it was the wrong part. Careful examination revealed that the bearing carriers on the motor were mounted on the wrong ends making it impossible to install as configured. (The Amazon pictures show the bearings mounted exactly as I received mine so other enclosures must require the reversed orientation.) I carefully removed the bolts and swapped the bearings end to end. The motor now matched the old one perfectly. After that change, the install was easy. Good news - the fan is now considerably less noisy, not whisper quiet like some newer models, but definitely an improvement over the old one.Addendum on 4/12/20:After the first week, with probably less than 1 hour total on-time, the fan got even quieter, or at least the tone changed making it seem less noisy. Even more pleased with my purchase now.

Broan 663-E/688-E Motor Replacement
I used this to replace the motor and fan in an old exhaust enclosure. They also sell the entire piece that fits up inside but I could not see spending an extra $20 for the metal bracket when the one that was up inside the enclosure was just fine (not much can go wrong with a metal bracket). You unplug the old motor, remove one screw, drop the bracket down out of the ceiling, remove the two small nuts holding the old motor, and then reverse everything to put it back together with the new motor. Took about 5 minutes total to install and works great. It's not the quietest fan out there, but sure beats crawling in the attic to replace the entire thing!

Does the job
This is a good, cheap replacement. It was easier for me to replace the fan than to replace the entire units from my ceilings. I replaced 4 of these fans in my house and it was a bit of a pain, mostly due to how poorly my old fan housings were installed. That said, I did have to unscrew and flip the direction the fan was facing to match my existing fans, but then they were identical. Getting the plastic fan blade onto the motor shaft was probably the hardest part of the installation. I'm not sure how you are supposed to do this, but I ended up using a hammer on flat concrete to get it all the way on. This is a scary process because you don't want to bend or snap the plastic fan blades. The noise level is a little higher than I would like, but they work.

Good replacement.
I'm not sure if it's louder than stock, because my previous motor was original to the fan and was extremely gummed up so it wasn't spinning full speed ever. I'd say it's not the loudest fan, but it's not silent... Not the motor's fault just the design of the fan imo.I'm super happy the body of the motor is about .25in smaller. Makes getting it back in much easier. My one complaint, and the reason for the missing star, is it's impossible to push the fan blade onto the motor shaft in its stock form. Had to ream out the shaft hole to get it to fit. Would have been better to just make it a keyed shaft, instead of a pressfit splined shaft.Overall, I'd still buy it again if i knew what i knew now.If i have any problems in the future I'll be sure to update my review.

Versatility a Plus
I bought this after watching a YouTube video on how to reverse the direction of a fan motor. The very, very old housing into which this needed to go is oriented exactly the reverse of the NuTone fans the motor was designed for. With the video's help, I was able to reverse the direction and fit it to the housing, where it works well. Noise levels are average for this type of small (50cfm) fan. I have no idea what "Sheerness" is, but I rated it average for that, too. The unit was easy to install once I reversed the flow. However, I have some experience with tools and gadgets to draw on.

CHEAP-NO QUALITY CONTROL
The entire fan unit was assembled backwards, so I had to carefully disassemble it and reverse the bearing housings. Also, the new fan (blades) is a press-on affair. The motor shaft has splines on the end which are meant to be pressed in to the smooth plastic bore of the new fan blade. This requires quite a bit of force and alignment and the fan blade is fragile. I used my drill press to press the fan blade onto the motor shaft. The motor shaft is very small diameter. I would have probably damage without the drill press. Also there was no hardware included. so if your original hex nuts don't fit, you'll have to go buy some. After all this, the flimsy fan was not running very true an caused an annoying droning sound.

Exhausts air quickly and relatively quietly
The noisy squirrel cage exhaust fan (brand unknown but not NuTone) in a small half-bath stopped running. Replacement with this new fan-blade exhaust fan was simple and the motor and fan blades turned out to be much quieter than the original. The exhaust fan is shipped such that the fan blades spin counter-clockwise. With the connection of the vent hose to the flapper valve configuration of the fan's air chamber, the counter-clockwise revolutions of the blades would attempt to pull air into the chamber if not blocked by the flapper valve so the motor had to be mechanically reversed by removing two screws and flipping the shaft over to spin the blades in a clockwise direction. This operation was very simple. You Tube provides videos if there are any questions. The only thing left to do was remove the mouse nest on the backside of the flapper valve preventing its operation. This took the most time. Combined time from start to finish was 30-45 minutes.

Quiet and easy to install
It’s a perfect it and replacement for the Nutone 669FN. Exact fit. It’s much quieter than the Nutone model which was 20 years old. Easy to install. So far good after a few days of usage.

Works great
I replaced a 25 year old fan of unknown brand. Just check the dimensions, esp the width between the mounting bolts. It is quieter than the one it is replacing and seems to suck air nicely.just wish it came with nuts ... had to go out to buy 2 $0.08c nuts to fit it. (imperial thread)
