Difference is packaging. Box is cardoard, clam is plastic covered, I believe, card.

Q: Will it stand up to gutting an elc or will it break or get dull half way through

Not the knife I'd go with for that job... havnt tried it so can't say. But it's more of a nice knife to keep in the pocket and open some things with from time to time. Gets dull fairly quick. Not that solid of steel but you get what you pay for.
