Nooelec Inmarsat Patch Antenna - High Gain (3.5dBi) 1550MHz PCB Antenna with SMA Connector for AERO

This antenna works. I can't say it's the "best" - that depends on your application and installation. For my use, I wanted to install an antenna, LNA, and USB tuner in a waterproof box so I could locate all the RF components away from sources of noise (i.e. your entire house).I have to question the judgement of other reviewers on this basis. You aren't going to get any L-Band satellite signal indoors. You aren't going to get a clean signal with an SDR connected directly to your PC (or the antenna near any electronics, particularly power supplies). You probably aren't going to get enough signal without an LNA - if I crank the gain on my Nooelec Smarter XTR to the max (42db), I significantly reduce my signal to noise ratio. Much better SNR "halfway" around 14-16.5 db gain.So, get a USB extension cable and an LNA (I got the Sawbird+ IO), and put the SDR, LNA, and antenna outside and as far from your home as possible, without running a bunch of lossy coax. If it has an SMA connection, it's probably not great for frequencies about VHF/UHF. With a good setup, the actual pointing of the antenna isn't super sensitive.Realistically, the software situation for Inmarsat seems more complex than getting the signal.

Im pretty new to the inmarsat stuff. That being said I was recieving messages within half hour of recieving the antenna. I also bought the sawbird lna for it and ended up using a second amplifier since I was using a long cheap cable. I dont know how far the sattelite is from where I am in NY but its close enough to work

Bought this to replace my small L-Band patch antenna (RTL-SDR blog). That patch works OK, but I hoped this would do better. I even bought the Nooelec SAWbird+ iO - Premium Saw & Cascaded Ultra-Low Noise LNA to go with this PCB antenna since the RTL patch has a built in LNA. Sadly, no luck. The RTL is 5-10dB stronger at 1.550GHz. Going back. No need to waste your money.

when I saw this I had to buy it, the build quality is fantastic (yes its just a circuit board but its a finely made one!) First is immersat next is GOES

Good antenna

The product spec claims 3.5dbi at 1550MHz. Very disappointing performance since my existing dipole antenna gives a totally better performance across L Band.This is an unusual event with Nooelec products as they usually perform as good as the specs.

I’ve add no look in finding Inmarsat with this antenna and I use the nooelec saw bird io. I add more looks making my own with the saw bird

works well for antenna size

I was surprised how small it was. Looked larger on photograph. But when I tried it, it worked. Used it with Noolec filter and preamp directly attached with adaptor without coax on input to minimise loss.

Die Antenne funktioniert einwandfrei. Allerdings ist beim Betrieb an einem RTL-SDR oder SDRPlayunbedingt ein Vorverstärker notwendig. (z.B.: 1-2000 MHz RF Breitband Verstärker Verstärkung 30db Low Noise)
