Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal

This thing is absolutely amazing. It breathed new life into my 6505+. I was using BOSS pedals before. I always have, since I first started playing guitar. It took a lot for me to want to switch to a multi-effects pedal. I went for it and was pleasantly surprised. It turned out to be a fantastic move, and here is why.I've seen a handful of reviews where people have talked bad about this thing, and it doesn't make any sense. They have no idea what they are talking about. This pedal is extremely diverse. It can do so many different things, and be good in so many different situations.The first situation is recording at home. The sound you can get with the amp modeling is amazing. all you need to do is install the driver, and plug the GT-100 into your computer with a USB cable, and you can record with amazing quality right into any recording software. I use Reaper, and it's flawless. It's really been a great asset for pre-production while my band is writing material for our new album. Also, in this same exact way. You can plug it directly into a P/A system, and it will sound great.As for my amp, my set up is different. I turned off the amp modeling, and I use the 4 cable method. If you don't know what it is, then go to youtube and search for the 4 cable method and find Glenn DeLaune's video. The 4 cable method allows me to use the true sound of my amp, while the GT-100 equalizes it out. The 6505+ is a noisy amp. The clean channel sucks, the rhythm channel is weak, and the lead channel can be a bit muddy on it's own. Thanks to the fact that I can make patches. I was able to get a great clean tone on my clean channel, and I was able to fix the muddy sound on my lead channel. So I use the lead channel for my rhythms, and then with another patch I boost it for my solos. It sounds great, and so much more clear. I'm still tweaking it here and there, which is normal, but I love how it sounds. Though as of right now I'm about to pick up a new amp, one that is more high end than the Peavey 6505+. I'm confident this pedal will shine through still.Now, this pedal is really sturdy. It feels like it can take a beating.As for the software. There has been an upgrade sometime this year. I have had no problem with the software. It's really easy to use. It's not that hard to figure out the menus. It takes a little bit of learning, but it's not a problem.Also for advice. If you want to get the best sound out of this pedal for your amp. Learn what pedals and effects should go before the amp, and which effects should go through the effects loop. It will help you get a better sound by far if you are using the 4 cable method which I highly recommend if your amp has an effects loop.

Lets start off by getting this out of the way: The only thing that sounds like a Les Paul cranked through a Marshall is a Les Paul cranked through a Marshall. Emulators, with the exception of some very high end units simply can not imitate that sound. That being said:It is a great unit with some good sounds. The version 2.00 software really added some much desired features and sounds. The update even added some improved " Star " sounds. The EVH sound is pretty good. I had to do some minor tweaks, but, no big deal. They used different speakers than I did and I wouldn't expect anything different.The PC interface is easy to use and does not take very long to get used to it. Install the drivers, the Boss Tone Studio app, connect the USB cable and your done. This unit also doubles as the sound card. You can record both the wet and dry channels at the same time for post editing in your recording software.I could go on and on about its abilities, but, there is so much info out there, it would be like beating a dead horse.The only thing I would like to have seen done was to have 2 concentric pedals so one could be dedicated to volume and the other to WAH or some other effect. You can add another pedal if you wish, but, I would have preferred it on the same board.

This is a nice multi effects pedal for startes (like me). Decent sound, lots of fun, you get everything you want in there. Line in very weak, I tried different mp3 players, cellphone, etc... You have to lower the guitar volume a to compensate the line in... Not good. The wha! sound it's kind of cheap, you can hear how the sound goes up and down in steps, easily noticeable.All in all I'm happy with it, nice toy.

Wow it just nails distortion like a pro! Just takes a very long time to dial in the exact tone you want. (But thats only because there's so many effects) The transient tones are a bit harder to get down since its so intricate. Theres only one type of wah though so thats perhaps a drawback. But you can replicate Jimi Hendrix to Metallica with ease. Some of the pre sets are really nice too. Some of the effects are so digitized sometimes though you can hear your first note but the rest are drowned out because the effect is too much for itself. (Ive come across this problem with the synth wave sim) Come at this thing with come Devin Townsend tones and it has you covered. Any distortion you want and then some. You can use 2 preamps plus an additional distortion pedal just for your distortion. This pedal takes the place of about 50 or more pedals. Plus the expression pedal and programmable tone bank is just amazing from going from clean to distortion, vice versa. There is no sound when switching tones which you need. The looper seems to be a bit off but it could just be me. (Ive never owned a looper before so I have no comparison) The Sitar Sim seems to be a bit off as well. I cant say that theres a spanish guitar tone but im sure its capable. After many years of pedal chaining I have this beast and my tone is finally quality. And yes it has a fully capable guitar tuner and Manual mode for live shows.

looks great, sounds great once you dial it in. the tone studio software makes it much easier to play with patches. my biggest complaint is there is apparently no way to have reverb or delay "spillover" when you switch patches. say you're playing soft with a long tailing delay and want to come in with a huge distorted piece, well when you switch patches it abruptly cuts off the delay tails...(READ UPDATE AT BOTTOM) it would be great if the unit could accomplish this. at 500+ dollars and two iterations of the firmware i'd think that Boss would add that feature. they had a form of it in the GT10 but not the GT100. if it had this feature i'd 5 star it, without the feature I will likely return it. ***UPDATE*** The gt100 can easily handle spillovers of delay by using "assigns" within a patch, which is actually better, so I'm bumping up my stars to 5.
