Can the software be used to ocr jpg pictures already on your computer, or does it only ocr what it scans? thanks

No and yes. The IRIScan Desk 5 Pro software, by itself, will not allow you to open a .JPG file that already exists on your computer. However (I'll bet that you've already figured this out), you can print the .JPG file using an image editing program (like Paint) and then scan it in using the IRIScan Desk 5 Pro software. If you have the companion software that IRIS sells, Readiris, you can do what you want to do directly. Or, you might try looking online for a free utility that converts .JPG files to text, Word, or Excel format.

What type of usb does it use? my laptop only uses usb-c.
