I recommend you use it in a drill press
This is a solidly built tool. The roundness is true ... no wobbling. It is not adjustable, it's fixed at a 3" diameter. The sandpaper is held tight by a cam mechanism. I recommend you use it in a drill press. It's a bit difficult to control with a handheld drill. The core of the drum is rigid, with a softer outer layer, just under the sandpaper. This makes it more forgiving, if you're inadvertently applying uneven pressure ... helps even out how much material you're removing ... gives you a more uniform result. You'll be satisfied this this tool.

it does ok
Like everyone else I can't get the paper to stay real tight. The paper stays on and haven't had problems with it sanding. The worst part was the price, after I ordered this I saw a whole set of these at the local Chinese junk store for a smaller price than this one item. Shame on me. By the way in case you're wondering, a sanding drum like this does replace an oscillating drum sander. If you can afford one, get it. It's a world of difference. I had one and wore it out so I tried going cheaper by buying a set of these. Now they set next to the drill press while I use my new oscillating sander. guess I'm just spoiled, expecting a tool to work well and all.

SO SO! Problem I dont think of
This is a great drum sander as shipped. It comes with some heavy duty CLOTH like SANDPAPER and it is very close to true round. Problem is having to reload it with whatever sandpaper you got around. I used store bought high quality sandpaper. It is near impossible to LOAD correctly. The THING that holds the sandpaper in/on the drum does NOT PULL IT TIGHT! You end up with the sandpaper Folding over on itself. I bought this to give my drill press a chance at doing double duty as a Drum sander. Should of got a dedicated drum sanderIT'S OKAY!

Great investment for your wood shop
Have used this enough to change out the sandpaper about 10 times (tip: use the good 3M paper for longer life). Using this in a Master Mechanic floor stand drill press set to the lowest speed and it really takes the work out of smoothing things that cannot be done with the palm sander. Another "keeper" for the garage.

Nice tool!
Not perfect - but a very serviceable sanding drum for a drill press, etc. I got tired of buying replacements for my standard drum and use this now for Med-rough sanding of the pipes I make. Easy to replace the paper with whatever grit I want. Like any ‘modified’ tool, it handles a little differently (requires a lighter touch) but well worth the price.

This thing is a pain in the ***. I ...
This thing is a pain in the ***. I bought a roll of paper and its a thicker grit and I had to tape the ends together to get it on. This is not ideal. The rod in the middle intended to tighten the tension and hold the paper often comes out, when I was able to get paper in it that fit. Even with paper that fits well it never truly lays flat. I wish there were other options out there because this is a valuable tool.

How about some directions in changing sandpaper
This was everything I wanted it to be. It worked great on my drill press just the way I hoped it would. But after I changed the sandpaper on it the first time it was unusable. I could not get a tight fit on the drum. There must be a way to do it because when I got it was tight. I bought the suggested roll of sand paper to put on it. But there were no directions. It would be nice if they at least gave on line directions.

Very good produce
I needed a drum sander so I ordered this one since you can cut your own sandpaper to fit on it and not have the expense of pre-formed sleeve to fit the drum . I made a board the same length as the sandpaper one that was on the drum and saved it and cut a few out of a sheet of sandpaper and followed the instruction that comes with the drum and the cut one I made fit perfect .GREAT PRODUCT....
