Love this Book!
I have done many diets over the years and the only one that worked for a while was weight watchers. I started into menopause last year and started gaining weight and nothing I did was working, even weight watchers. I bought this book and am so happy I did. I bought it about 2 months ago and have lost 13 lbs. The last time I measured I also lost 9 inches, but I think I've lost more because my clothes are fitting so much better. I have also been doing Zumba twice a week and doing weights in the morning 2-3 times a week. I have never been able to just diet and lose weight. I have always had to use exercise also. In the last year I have exercised and dieted, but with no success until I read this book. The recipes are great! My husband has even tried a few of them and makes the Sugar Smart Energy Bars for me each week that I eat as my afternoon snack. My favorite recipes are from the first couple weeks....the two salads and the potato/chicken sausage dish. I am now very conscious of how much sugar is in my food and have lowered the amount of sugar in my coffee and am still satisfied. I am going to continue to eat the Sugar Smart way as I continue to see results. I would absolutely recommend this, especially to someone that has gained weight during menopause and has tried everything and has thought about giving up. Don't give up....try this new way of eating. It may work for you too!

Interesting, inspiring, and awakening
This could ruin your life as a cookie monster. After reading this, I decided to see if I could go sugarless. Amazing within a week I had lost 3 lbs, and felt more energetic. Finding the food industry stuffs almost everything with sugar was a shock. I do read the labels, but hadn't really come to grips with how much sugar was going in. It was obvious how much sugar was creating in the way of weight. By the end of the month, 16 more lbs disappeared and I still felt great and the cravings for food had disappeared. The true test ... a borderline case of diabetes had been warned, so now we go in and see what the lab tests on blood would show. Every category was dead center. That was quite a shock as through the years, at least two or three categories would be over the line one way or another. Have I stopped eating sweets ... no, but I think about it before eating and find I can manage my weight much better.

This is a great place to start for people interested in reducing their sugar consumption in a reasonable, moderate fashion. The diet advocated is balanced and easily done, even if you have a family full of picky eaters. Three people in my family did this program and we lost between 7 and 17lbs -- each person starting with drastically different amounts needing to lose. I really hate "diets" but the information in this book can help you craft a lifestyle that involves less sugar, less weight, less fatigue. Can you tell I'm a fan? Just read it!

So Much Valuable Information
Disclaimer: I did not do the diet. However, this book was really a catalyst for my changing my eating habits and the way I food shop, cook and eat.Regardless of whether you want to commit to the diet or not, the whole start of the book deals with factual, scientific information about how sugar impacts your body. It was eye opening to me and helped me change my eating habits and my relationship with sugar.

This Works!
I was amazed as well as appalled by all the sugar that we take in on a regular basis and don't even know it. Sugar really is hidden in almost every product that is processed or manufactured. Luckily I had already given up most gluten products, so doing the Sugar Smart plan hasn't been that much of a jolt to my way of eating. However, after not having any fruit for a week, the first bite I had of an apple was really sweet! I feel I now have control over what sugar I'm putting in my body. Keeping my added sugar intake to less than 22 grams will be very doable.

Great way of eating to lose weight
This is the way a diet should be. Use foods closest to the earth and not processed. You can have it all, still. You just need to go through a week of no added sugars. After that, the cravings are diminished and you can start adding in all the things you had to take out...just not as much. Teaches you to eat cleaner foods to become healthier. Everything is calculated for you. You just pick your meals from lists and make the recipes provided. Or, there are options for eating out. Very easy and doable.

If you don't like vinegar, get out the Truvia
For me, the most important focus was on the addiction part of it, and having to deal with it. You can stay away from the liquor store and the casino, you can't stay away from food the its sugar content. Dealt with all aspects of sugar: physical addiction, emotional addiction, healthy eating. Downside: For those who don't like vinegar, get out the Truvia. Editing was worst I have seen. Didn't transfer well to Kindle; I ended up outlining the book. Agree with person who said to purchase it in hard copy, for the recipes alone.

A Different Kind of Diet for Me
Don't buy it on your Kindle. It would be much more practical & easier to reference in a hard copy. It does have very interesting information about our food culture in regard to processed grains & addition of hidden sugars to our foods. I thought it spent too much time on the psychology of dieting but it did help me target my "sugar triggers" & deal with them. There are a lot of recipes. I have only tried a couple, but will utilize more as I go. I haven't compared this book to others on the market & would be interested in feedback from others with more experience.

Lost 5 pounds and have a better understanding of sugar
I wanted to try this diet because I know I am addicted to sugar, plus I wanted to lose a few pounds. I was able to lose 5 pounds on the diet, I was only able to stick to the eating plan for a few weeks, but I did feel more energized and less foggy from eating less to no sugar.Anne is such a great personality. She never once says that you need to get rid or sugar forever. She is trying to give you control on the amount of sugar that you eat. I loved that because I would never give up sugar forever! I feel much more informed about the food I am eating. I have cut back on the amount of sugar I eat and I even know that I can go without it for a few weeks (which I never thought I would be able to do).

... such as maple syrup and honey which are no better than sugar
Sent it back as it focuses on sugar substitutes such as maple syrup and honey which are no better than sugar. I was looking for books which encourage you and show you how to eradicate sugar from your diet. David Gillespie's books are much better if you are looking for clear advice on how to cut out sugar completely.

Simple and it works! What an eye opener.
I read about this "diet" in Prevention magazine a few months ago and was amazed by the before and after pictures of the women who had been on it for 32 days. I was looking for a simple jump-start diet that would get me results without making me hungry. I was also sick of counting WW points and starving each night when I didn't have any left. I am currently in the fourth week of this diet, and I am pleasantly surprised. Mainly for the following reasons: 1) It is simple to follow and you don't get hungry, which was such a relief!!! I had no idea that the sugar in my normal diet (even on WW) was making me so crazy-hungry. 2) It opened my eyes to the dangers of sugar and how we are being sabotaged with it in ways we don't even know. For example, when I started paying attention, I was shocked: sugar in mustard?!, in salad dressings?!, in dill pickles, in plain yogurt?! in canned vegetables?! These were the things I had been eating to help me slim down, and it turns out they were making me feel famished and leading me to feel miserable and sometimes even eat more. 3) Though I am not losing a lot of weight in a small period of time, I am losing, and I am on a path that I think I can stay on for a long while. I had some ice cream the other night, and I was shocked by the fact that I did not want to finish it. It was so sweet! So, if you don't mind cooking and preparing a lot of meat and vegetables and whole grains, and if you like cheese and nuts and natural peanut butter, this might be the diet for you. Also, I have been able to lose even though I have had to cut down on my exercise time. Eating out is also possible as long as you steer clear of the "unknown" sauces and the bread basket. Just give it a try, I am truly surprised by the changes I am seeing!
