Observer resin band has short life; too expensive
These bands are way too expensive considering how short their life is. I was considering buying a titanium metal band, which should have ended the band problems, but my watch crapped out before I ordered one. If you have a Suunto Observer watch, you are stuck buying one of these factory units as far as my research goes, so just find the best price. Consider a metal band if available.Additional notes about the watch: The watch worked great when I first bought it, and over the years, I have worn it diving to well over 100'. As time went by, the compass crapped out. It would appear to calibrate normally; after the two slow rotation turns it required, it stated calibration was successful. But the next time I tried to get a compass bearing, it wasn't working. Next went the altimeter, which is presently stuck at about 14,500' on the read out, at my altitude of 371 feet. Then I noticed moisture inside the watch; fogging up the middle of the crystal. I had of course changed the battery a few times, and figured in this highly humid Oregon atmosphere, it just needed airing/drying out. I put it in a vacuum jar, and left it under a 27" vacuum for a couple of hours. But, the next time I took a shower, or got it wet --- more moisture fogging up the crystal again. After a couple more times through the vacuum procedure, it started eating batteries. Plus, one day it just locked up, and would do nothing. I replaced the battery one more time, which reset the watch, but continued having problems with it locking up. It now hangs on my desk as a curio. Now, for months, it has been running very well, and as always, it is still accurate to about 1 second a month, which I find amazing, since it is not an "Atomic, radio controlled" watch.I was thinking of sending it back to Suunto for repair, but never looked into it, so don't know how much $$ it would cost, or it it's even possible to get Suunto to repair it. In the meantime, I started wearing one of my 4 Casio "G-Shock" watches. I've owned them for many years, a couple from the '70's, before buying the Suunto Observer, and all of them still operate error free. Santa got word of my dilemma, and now I have a 5th Casio watch, a Casio Men's PRW2500T-7CR Pathfinder. It's solar powered, set by the "Atomic" radio signal from Ft. Collins, CO., with an aluminum case & titanium metal band. It has a Compass & Altimeter, plus other functions I don't use. I strongly recommend it to everyone, and would say stay away from the observer.

elastomer suunto band for X6M
First of all, I replaced the leather band and got the Plastic/elastomer (whatever its made of) which a watch like this should've come with in the first place. Now when I go bicycling or hiking and sweat I can just rinse and dry it off. Leather bands retain sweat and begin to smell, this band was made for activesports.Only complaint I would have is that the buckle is a bit tight when pushing the non-buckle side of strap through but it does hold band in place very well.Only other thing is on watches like this the band has to be watch specific so you can't just put any straight ended band on, it has to be specific, like mostor all of the Nixon watches.

Great Watches, lousy bands
Suunto makes great watches but if I had known how many bands I would have to replace over the years I would not have bought into the brand in the first place. I actually have three different Sunnto watches and they all have had band problems. The Observer, most expensive, is the worst but in general the experience is frustrating. This is the fourth band I've had to order in the last 8 years for the Observer. The others have only been replaced once each but they are sailing watches and not worn even close to everyday. For what they cost they should stand up better. They always fail in the same manner, the crap rubber like material breaks and that's it. I even had a leather band special ordered from Finland and that only lasted 1 year. Until I finally break down an buy a different everyday travel watch I'll only buy the cheapest bands they have and expect to replace them. Most frustrating...

An exact replacement item for the original. The watchband ...
An exact replacement item for the original. The watchband itself will give you about 2 years service, on average, if you are an active person. The part that will begin to fail first, however, is the colored insert. The band is black but with a colored accent created by the adhering of a colored strip to the underside of the watch. That strip will eventually separate but can be reattached with a small bit of flexible silicone glue. No problems with shipping and packaging.

Good band, wears quick
As most all reviews have stated, this watch band will wear out in one year with daily use. The cost of these bands have decreased making them affordable. Changing the band was tight, but not that difficult with a small precision screw driver. I hadn't worn this watch in several years due to the cost of the band and the cell-phone-watch in my pocket. After replacing the band, I was struck by how soft and pliable the new band material was, and what a stiff and ridged the hunk of tire the old band had morphed into.

ANOTHER replacement band....why can't they last like the watch itself????????
It fits and installed fairly easily this time....but then that is probably because it's something like the 4th replacement watch band I've installed on my Suunto. I am hoping this one last the usual 2-3 years the other did (except the sturdier metal one that only lasted about 18 months, go figure since it costs twice as much as this one). If this band breaks before 2020, I'm throwing the whole watch away and buying something from someone else....

Best hard to find watch strap
Ok, I go this watch in Afghanistan. And I wore it all the way through the deployment. It was as tough as they come. Then I took the watch off for a year - Hey, time to get back to the civ world. Anyway, during it's rest period, the strap just died. I don't blame it. Life without purpose sucks. Now I have a new strap - just like the old one. It was hard to install. And I imagine it's going to wear like IRON. If you need one, fear not - this is the real one. Semper Fi

cheap and good quality
Decent strap. Didn't want to pay the price of the titanium strap for replacement anymore. The only thing that would have been nice if it was longer like the vector strap. I have medium sized wrists and it is only a couple holes from the maximum. If you have large wrists this may not work for you.

Doesn't last long enough
It seems to be a theme with the Suunto straps; I've had a Observer TT for a few years and bought this as I was fed up of buying the TT straps at Β£50 odd and them just not lasting. I tried this one which fits perfectly (although loses some of the reason I paid for the TT) and was at least half the price and it had been fine until recently when it's started to degrade and fall apart.Splits started appearing on the inside of the strap and the grey hoops started to come away from the black strap. It's been super glued several times but I won't dive with it now as I'm concerned about it breaking and disappearing into the drink. Great watch, not a great strap from Suunto and does not compare to a Citizen watch strap I have that's several years old and going strong. For 'the outdoor watch', it needs a more robust strap or the price to match the quality and lifespan.

Average strap
I have owned my Observer for 9 years now and this is the 5th replacement strap I have bought. After about a year and a half the elastomer strap starts to crack and the cycle begins again. Since this is a unique watch only Suunto has the bands to fit it and they seem to be quite happy selling me a $50 strap that will last two years instead of improving it so it would last as long as a $10 strap for other watches. I have tried the stainless steel and leather models but they are just stainless steel or leather attachments on the crappy Suunto elastomer which is where the failure occurs in two years or less. I love my watch but I hate the straps.

SUNNTO Navigator watch strap.
This is a cheaper replacement strap that I purchased for my"expensive" Sunnto watch. The original straps had fancy metal inserts which looked and gave the watch a very attractive look. However, I had to replace these straps twice in a very short period of time due to the straps snapping, which must be due to the poor quality material used by Sunnto. This strap is a cheaper version of the previous ones and on first appearance seem to have more elasticity which hopefully will give longer service - time will tell. Should this one fail I intend to dump what is a very good watch because I believe Sunnto have a serious quality issue here which needs addressing. This strap does not look as classy as the more expensive ones that I first mentioned.
