No. Each lot of our Blue Spirulina is laboratory tested and must pass for any trace micro organisms and levels of heavy metals or other chemical toxins. It is grown from cultures in the pristine waters of an island which is strictly controlled to prevent any possible contamination of the product. There are no industrial, residential or agricultural activities anywhere near the facility and a 10 mile greenbelt is maintained in all directions to ensure purity. Irradiation is never used and is not needed because strict measures are in place to control micro organisms and toxins.

Spirulina growing in contaminated water can concentrate toxins which will cause a host of side effects. Our phycocyanin is sourced from a sparsely populated area of a beautiful tropical  island in the South China Sea adjacent to Vietnam. The island has strict laws that require the spirulina to be grown in areas with pure, deep water and they enforce a greenbelt of 10 kilometers on all sides of the facility where no residential or commercial activities are allowed. The spirulina culture is produced and tested in Germany and is grown in accordance with strict testing guidelines that meet US and EU standards. Each lot is lab tested and passed for chemical and bacterial presence, as required by the FDA and other governing agencies worldwide. In summation, Ellie's Best blue spirulina extract is made from spirulina grown in the exceptionally clean and natural environment of the Hainan Island. It grows in the pristine waters of the island and each lot has been stringently tested and found to be pure and free from any harmful substances. It is 100% pure and has nothing added.
