This pencil is so pretty and comfortable to write with. My only complaint is that the point doesn’t retract more for carrying around and pokes through my pencil case. Love it anyway!

Always been a fan of Tombow. They have been around a long time and have put some high tier pencils on the market. So reviewing this Mech pencil just seemed like something I had to do. So first off, I would like to just toss this out on the table. This pencil is a lot thicker than what I prefer to use. I tend to feel more comfortable with thinner designs but this is just a personal preference, and I know many other people who prefer thicker pencils. I just wanted to leave that out there first so it isn’t a part of the actual pros and cons in the outcome of this review. Just a heads up for those with a preference. Now this pencil is obviously plastic bodied but doesn’t feel too light weight and cheap. The shaker function design has added some weight to the nose so that helps out a lot. That being said, another thing that I’m just going to toss out as a personal thing for me is, I do think the shake advancement system is very cool, and is a nice addition/alternative to the normal push clutch system, however, I’m just not a big fan of having to shake my pencil to advance the lead. It takes way more energy to shake the pencil, as it would just pushing the clutch. And I know that it was a design to help us from repositioning our hands to advance more lead, and you could just lift up and shake till it’s extruded to your desired length. But for me, I can use a push clutch just as quick cause my hands are nimble enough and fingers long enough to never skip a beat. But hey, I still dig the design and have no beefs with it or it’s users. Along with the shake advancement system, it has a sliding lead lock that is built into the pencil clip. You slide the clip up to lock (on) and slide the clip down to lock (off), locking and unlocking the lead in place. Here’s the bad though, that locking clip feels very very flimsy, and I can almost see that being the biggest weak point on this whole pencil. If it breaks or completely breaks off, I’m not sure if you would still be able to function this properly. I always try to avoid talking about Mech erasers cause I never use them, and don’t really understand why anybody would when you can buy electric erasers, retractable erasers, sharpening eraser core pencil, etc etc. Why use a tiny little eraser that will need to be replaced often, when you can just buy something specific for erasing. But that’s just me. I don’t want to have to buy specific replacement erasers for all my Mechs. Anyways, this Mech has a twist advance/retract eraser. It does feel very smooth so I can’t knock the mechanics of it. The needle tip is nice and long the way I like them to be. But that nice needle tip is attached to almost a hybrid head that is half conical and half tubular style. Now I love the blunt tubular heads on Mechs, but hate the conical designs used on a lot of others. With this being a hybrid of both, I guess people can have the best of both worlds, though my best world would never pay props to a conical design.haha. I think it’s time to talk about how this thing feels in my hand. Well, like I said earlier, it’s thick. Too thick for my taste but beyond that, it has a very slick smooth body to it. You know that always looks good, but in the real world of holding a Mech for a couple hours while your hands are getting moist, this can be a nightmare to keep a grip on. This is on top of the fact that the actual grip area is where they added the clear plastic part of the body, which is just as slick as the body itself. Now I love the look of clear parts and being able to see all the mechanics. I seriously love that look. But once again, it just creates an issue of pencil slipping. So definitely another check on the con side for that. Lead advancement averages out to about 0.4 per click, if you don’t count the shakes you do that didn’t quite shake hard enough to push out the lead. Yes, that becomes an annoyance. See, that shaking efficiency drops very quickly when you notice just how often you deal with trying to get the lead length exactly where you want it. And if a balanced Mech is what your interested in, then the shake design is not for you. All shakers are nose heavy. I personally have no issue with needing a weight balanced pencil, but I know a few of you out there do. So let’s get down to the final thoughts here. I like this pencil, I trust the Tombow name, and I ordered it in the super cool mint green which is a hard color to find a Mechanical pencil in. But, it has a lot of bad design issues that would put it in the (keep it in my collection, but never use it) category. The bad issues is only part of that reason. Some of them reasons are just personal preferences, so just make sure in my review, that you read which ones were only my opinion, and which ones are real issues. No I wouldn’t buy another, but I don’t regret buying this one. As collector of Mechs, I don’t feel like every pencil has to be top tier. I also know that not all 5 dollar Mechs are bad, and not all 50 dollar Mechs are good. If money is an issue for you, and you need a good mech, there is plenty of other pencils out there for cheaper than this one. There is great Mechs out there for as cheap as 5 or 6 dollars that will last you for years. I hope this review helps you out.

Heavy, but not too heavy. The color is nice. Love the design. The only issue I've experienced is the eraser mechanism breaking. After a few weeks of owning it, the part that pushes the eraser up shifts a lot and even pops out. Not a big deal for me, I prefer to use different erasers

These mechanical pencils are so aesthetically pleasing in my opinion! The quality is great as well. I also love the “shake to advance lead” aspect of this pencil! My only complaint would be there isn’t a comfortable grip. I’m a full time college student so I do a lot of writing. The grip part is a hard plastic and becomes bothersome after awhile. I’m going to try a soft pencil grip on it to make it more comfortable. Other than that I love it!

I love everything about this pen. The weight and shape feels so nice when I’m drawing and the color is so pretty. I would totally recommend it.

Perfect mint just as shown in the photos. Excellent functionality and simple to use. Nice solid, quality construction, while still feeling nice and light for long sessions of use. What more can you ask for?
