‘Master WordPress by step-by-step building a complete WordPress site.’
Stephen Burge has split his career between teaching and web development. In 2007, he combined the two by starting to teach web development. His company, OSTraining, now teaches web design classes around the world and online. Stephen is originally from England and now lives in Florida. He has published seven books for the OSTraining team – books that are widely used by Tech students as well as lay people.Opening a book such as a self help book on IT technology it is refreshing to have the subject defined. Stephen honors that need – ‘WordPress is web-publishing software. It’s designed for people to publish content online: news, blogs, photos, products, documents, events or 1,001 other things. Because it allows you to manage your content, you’ll often hear it called a “Content Management System” or CMS… The software is free to use, free to download, free to use on your sites, free to use on your customers’ sites. There are also many free features available. You can find designs that people have created and are giving away. You can also find free shopping carts, calendars, contact forms and much more.’The content of the book, very well supplemented with graphs and illustrations, include WordPress Explained, Planning for Your WordPress Website, Your First, WordPress Tasks, WordPress Posts Explained, WordPress Categories and Tags Explained, WordPress Pages Explained, WordPress Media and Galleries Explained, WordPress Plugins Explained, WordPress Contact Forms Explained, WordPress Themes Explained, WordPress Page Builders Explained, WordPress Widgets Explained, WordPress Menus Explained, WordPress Users Explained, Finishing and Launching Your Site, and WordPress Site Maintenance Explained. The book does come across as a sales tool for the various programs Stephen teaches, but aside from that this is a nice beginning guide to a complex subject. Good book but can be hard to follow.
Overall, the book is packed with information. It is just hard to read. A bit dry, but good information.

WordPress explained?
Well, my first comment is that I don't mind spending money on a used book, but not at the NEW price. This book that was supposed to be new was USED. It had a coffee stain on one of the pages and a marker of sorts inside as well. After reading through various chapters and going on my computer/web site to apply what is in this book, I am no further enlightened than before receiving this book. I still think WordPress is a very difficult web designer site to use. I wish I had used a different site.

Must have for anyone starting out in Wordpress
I grabbed this on Kindle to add to my library of how-to since I work with wordpress for a couple different sites and site types. This is the perfect book for the beginner wordpress user that has never used it before. Everything is explained in a point by point listing. Chapter 1 is theory. Chapter 2 is what you need to run wordpress. Assuming you already have an active install, Chapter 3 is really where you get into the meat and potatoes of what you do with the First 10 Wordpress tasks. The author uses simple language that anyone can understand. It's not written for the programmer but rather the layman. The biggest advantage you would have in picking up the Kindle version over Paperback is that you can do a quick search for terms like "YouTube", and you can go straight to that part of the book to see how to include YouTube in the WordPress site.I appreciate that the author goes into "Wordpress Posts Explained". When I first started in wordpress, I wasn't sure if I wanted a "Post" or a "Page". (He explains pages in chapter 6). The content I was specifically grateful for was the detail in the Galleries, (WP galleries have caused me quite a bit of angst in the past.), and Contact Forms.Don't be put off by the advertisements in this book. It makes it clear that it's Sponsored by GoDaddy, so you are going to have to endure some advertisement for their product. As I mentioned before the meat and potatoes starts at Chapter 3.At the end of the book there are 3 "Bonus" chapters. They make a recommendation for a plugin called "JetPack" in the first one. Personally this should've been the last one. Several readers will stop here. I did the first time and then I saw I had 2 more chapters past the advertisement for Jetpack in the index!! You can get the basic Jetpack package for free, but if you want anything that major advertisers would want - or even backups, then you would be shelling out for a membership package.Make sure you continue to the Bonus content of Optimizing Wordpress. (Trust me, or your site will run like a snail!) and if it is up your alley, the Bonus eCommerce content.4 Stars for the helpful wordpress content. Would've been 5 stars if they had kept the advertising to just the front or very back of the book instead of inserted into the content.

Very Useful
WordPress Explained: Your Step by Step Guide to WordPress by Stephen Burge is a useful guide for anyone that needs a little help with WordPress. I've dabbled with this software before but found this very interesting. The book has clear and to the point instructions on how to build a website with WordPress. A lot of people, when wanting to build websites go to this platform, it's a really good web contents management system. If you just want to build a website that you have achieved yourself and can be proud of, then the book is going to help you greatly. The book covers a lot of aspects stretched out over 20 chapters. The good thing about WordPress you can add extremely useful features and functions without programming. I know from my own experience you can add that as well but most people aren't that technical. This book has a hands on approach with clear instructions and visuals. I recommend to beginners and people like myself that have a little knowledge.

Best book for WordPress beginners
If you are a complete WordPress beginner looking for clear and to the point instructions on how to build a website with WordPress, this book is for you.You will find it very easy to read and follow. Even if English is not your first language. This book won't teach you how to develop WordPress themes. This book won't teach you how to develop WordPress plugins. It leaves such skills out.It doesn't claim to be "everything-and-the-kitchen-sink" WordPress Bible. It doesn't contain everything there is to know about WordPress.Instead, it takes you by your hand and gently, step by step, instruction by instruction, explanation by explanation, practically helps you to build your first WordPress site.Highly recommend!
