New York by Serge Ramelli
I'm giving this as a Christmas '17 gift to a family member. I have always LOVED black and white photography. I love colored photography too. But there is something so haunting about black and white photography (or films) that you just cannot get those images from out of your mind. They linger long after the viewing of the material. This book is no exception! Yes, I looked at it before I wrapped it up! It is GORGEOUS! If you love architecture, then "New York" is replete with unique and exquisite examples of architecture; and if you LOVE New York, then you are getting 2 wonderful loves in one book! I hope Serge Ramelli will continue to photograph the grand ol' cities of the world. There are so many cities whose beauty deserve this kind of gorgeous photography book to display their beauty and uniqueness. Serge has a flawless eye. He truly is gifted!

A Beautiful Book!
My heart beats faster when I see black and white photography, even faster when it is of NYC, then faster again when it is NYC at night, and, OMG, NYC at night with snow!This is a magnificent book - I have several of his photo books, including one in color of NYC - but this one is the best of all. I actually like that he doesn't caption his photos - I try to place where they are taken - but the appendix at the back fills in the blanks if you need help.

CLARITY!
Great photography in black and white. For some reason you can easily focus on any item clearly and cleanly. Lack of color? No clue, but l find myself discovering something different and new on the same pages hours or days later.

Multiple times he confuses the Manhattan bridge for the Brooklyn bridge, they look completely different and this person should have checked before publishing. Good photos though.

Sehnsuchtsort New York
Dieses Buch fängt mit seinen Bildern genau das ein, was New York für viele Menschen ist: Sehnsuchtsort, wunderschöne Kulisse, ein fast vertrauter Freund den man aus vielen liebgewonnen Filmen kennt. Es macht unheimlich Spaß, fast wie bei meinem Wimmelbild die tollen Fotografien (vorallem in den Abend und Nachtstunden) zu betrachten und zu entdecken was New Yorks Charme ausmacht. Einfach wunderschön.Bitte lesen Sie auf keinen Fall das Vorwort! Wie kommt man auf die Idee ein solch bitteres, fast schon nörglerisches Vorwort in einem Buch zu drucken? Es ist der erste Eindruck der entsteht bevor man überhaupt die Bilder sieht. Wenn man nicht gerade New Yorker ist, kann man nicht anders als sich vor den Kopf gestoßen zu fühlen und sich zu fragen - sind denn alle Touristen schuld an der "Besudelung" New Yorks, die dort bemängelt wird?Sind es nicht auch Touristen, die sich dieses Buch kaufen, um ihre liebsten Erinnerungen an einen tollen Urlaub in New York wieder zu erwecken, die in diesem Vorwort ganz offen angegangen werden?Es hat rein gar nichts mit der Schönheit der Stadt zu tun, die in den Bildern eingefangen ist und mit Nichten besudelt ist! Dieses Vorwort wird den Bildern nicht im geringsten gerecht und ist Fehl am Platz.

I bought this book for my Son as he had been to visit New York last year after teaching at Camp America. He loved the quality of the photographs.
