Does the Job
For reasons I don't understand, this water heater came with a fixed thermostat set at about 160 degrees. Dangerously hot. Got this adjustable one to bring it down to about 120 degrees. It worked great for about 3 years and then it broke. Stuck on maximum heat. Bought a new one and all is well again. The first one was pretty easy to install, but the second one only took about 90 seconds.

Spring steal mount to long
The supplied spring steel mount clip was to long and broke instantly when I tried to bend it. I bought stainless steal screws and 2 cold rolled pins and a large washer and fabricated my own. It works very well and would buy it again for the adjustable temperature setting. It stopped my cold start high tempature trip problem.

Adjustability is a great feature.
My motorhome hot water was too hot until the original thermostat failed and I discovered this item while researching online. It is four times the price of the basic, one temperature unit but has that very important ability to control hot water temperature.

Should have been stock.
This should have come on the water heater from the beginning, a must have. Our water was way way too hot before, around 160. Now at setting A it's 120 to 123. Install is tricky due to the spring, but put the spring and holder on the thermostat and hold the three together, then install it. Takes just a few minutes total. I also used thermal paste to make the connection better between the thermostat and the tank.

Design could be improved
It works fine but the design of the spring could be improved to make installation easier. I'm fairly handy but it was a challenge.

Fixed the problem
As with most RVs, ours had the wonderful feature of scalding hot water and no way to adjust it. This thermostat seems to fit most water heaters. It fit our Atwood 5 (or 6) gallon model just fine. The installation instructions were correct but pretty brief. As usual, Youtube to the rescue. It takes a little coaxing to get it in place. I would call it a medium difficulty. It's important to ensure you have good contact with the water heater tank or the thermostat will not function properly. I would highly recommend using some heat sink compound where the thermostat contacts the tank. This will ensure you get consistent performance.Overall, I would recommend this device. It should be included with every RV.

Great idea, poor execution
Like many others, my goal was to tame the scalding hot water and reduce power usage associated with the factory 140 degree thermostat. My water heater is a Dometic/Atwood (WH-6GEA) factory installed in my 2021 coachman freedom express 231rbds. Like others have stated, for a factory (dometic/Atwood) provided retrofit kit, this has the absolute worst mounting system - a cheap metal mounting bracket that is a one-size fits some approach and a terrible designed weak spring that due to its design, along with the bracket, lends to not putting even downward pressure on the thermostat and it also wants to push out around the extra space where the thermostat fits through the bracket hole. The uneven downward pressure applied by the spring wants to apply more pressure to one side of the thermostat slightly angling it to where there is not even pressure/contact against the water tank. I believe this is why many suggest it is critical that one use heat sink paste to create a better and more consistent heat transfer from the tank to the thermostat. I will add, the factory 140 degree thermostat fit perfectly and had no such heat sink paste used. In my case the bracket was also slightly too long to the point that the thermostat did not initially make it through the mounting bracket hole (a requirement). Again, like many others, I needed to make a few modifications to the mounting. First, I effectively shortened the mounting bracket by about 2-3mm by bending the mounting tabs towards the front and then installing electrical spade connectors cut down to proper length. A rig for sure but was secure and worked fine. Next was to stretch the spring a bit in length and the to stretch/open up the coil on one end as to be less prone to want to push through the poor fit between thermostat and mounting bracket hole. Again, this worked fine. I also used thermal heat sink paste used for mounting computer CPUโs to heat sinks/fans. This paste works great. Two other complaints. 1. This โupgradeโ is likely irreversible in my opinion. It requires bending the three original mounting tabs out of the way as this thermostat is significantly larger than the original. I am highly doubtful that these flimsy tabs will be able to be bent back to original position without breaking them off. I feel once you do this upgrade you are committed for life and will need to continue to replace these with $40 thermostats instead of the original $15 version. 2. The insulating foam needs to be removed to install the new thermostat and there is no effective replacement. People will say this foam is just cosmetic which it is not. It serves to provide a controlled environment between thermostat and water heater tank sealing out drafts and heat loss. I suspect this is why no heat sink paste is used/needed for the factory thermostat but it is required with this new adjustable version. If I had to do this over, I would absolutely not buy this adjustable thermostat. I would highly recommend just buying the $15 130 degree thermostat 91470 which is an EXACT replacement for the factory 140 degree. It will lower the temp 10 degrees, only costs $15, and is an exact replacement which fits properly requiring no modification. Dometic/Atwood needs to provide a better mounting system for their adjustable thermostat retrofit kit.

This should come stock
Installed this on my coachman toyhauler. They spring was a pain in the butt so i used safety wire and small zip tie to hold the spring in place for installation. We started on A setting and felt its not quite hot enough so we went to b but haven't tried that yet. Used some thermal paste to keep good contact wit the tank.

Parts Missing
The product appears fine but the installation ring and spring were missing. Amazon must have a policy of ' well just return it" but what I need is the parts. Plus they want $7.25 for shipping even though I am a Prime member. I would be happy to give it a proper review once I get the parts, I don't want to return it, it looks like just what I need. BTW, Amazon refused my previous feedback on this issue so I softened it down a little. Let us see where this gets me.

Feet pointing in the wrong direction
As you can see from the picture the feet are not the same as the actual product I received. We really needed the feet to point out. We call dometic and they said that is how they come now. Did get it in. But I donโt think it is making very good contact with the hot water heater.

It works, but isn't quite as robust as I would like.
I installed this to replace a defective thermostat. I used a Thermal Compound between this thermostat and the metal of the tank to enable better heat transfer, as the spring on this holding frame is quite wimpy and doesn't really seem to hold it firmly. Works well, but I'd have rather had a more robust holding frame and spring. Temperature adjustment works and is so much nicer given I didn't previously have this.

Great product
Very pleased with this purchase. Easy to install and now I don't have to worry about my kids scalding themselves with hot water anymore.

Great
Fairly easy to install. Works great. Add a little heat sink paste on the backside for more consistent temp control.
