Incredible resource!
Wow! Lots to learn for anyone interested in the body and how it functions, what it needs, the history of fine tuning into somatic experience and the nitty gritty details of every muscle, bone, tendon, fascia, cell, blood, breath, ... all of it connected and operating as one unbelievably amazing system! LOVE THIS BOOK. Reading it again now after I consumed it like a meal after a 35 mile hike up a mountain (did that once) .. (first read). Any body worker, yoga guide, somatic adventurer, anatomy scholar, physical therapist, surgeon, veterinarian, physician, medical student, dancer, athlete, and basically, any human who wants to know themselves better, will benefit from and enjoy this book!

Classic text useful today
I re-purchased this book recently because I discovered that I had sold or donated the copy I bought in 1975. I was prompted to consult it again after viewing a documentary about Marilyn Monroe, who grows more interesting and complex over time. She had read this book and used an idea for it to develop her signature walk. Todd tells the reader to walk as though you were suspended from an umbrella. Marilyn Monroe could think of herself hanging in space that way and it freed her to move freely. This book is remarkable and rich with insights.

Make changes in the mind, make changes in posture. Good read.
Just started this book and it seems to be a good read. I like the way it's going so far. Marilyn Monroe used this to practice posture for her acting. That is not to say it's a reason to buy it, but my point is that I think it could be useful especially for those who are studying a physical craft. Helps you have a perspective on your posture.

Ideally suited for students of anatomy
I chanced into this book when researching dance kinesthethia. The book, published in the 1930s, stresses the importance of body awareness, posture, balance, breathing and so on. However, as a nonmedical reader, I found the scientific explanations overwhelming but still plodded through. There is no doubt that a book written for the lay reader that maintains its science basis would be immensely invaluable. I would nonetheless recommend readers to flip through the book because the scientific basis is incredibly compelling. You will not look at posture the same way again. I do believe that any individual focused on body movements either through yoga or serious dance will benefit.

Stunning!
Wow. Marilyn Monroe must've been a very secretly smart woman! I discovered this book after watching the HBO doc love Marilyn and all I have to say is wow. This book is written almost Shakespearian like either that or I seriously need to upgrade my vocabulary. It's almost like a personalized textbook for your body and mind. The thinking body teaches you everything from how to walk and talk to etiquettency! A pure classic no doubt about it the thinking body basically teaches you how to raise yourself and teach yourself how to act. Civil.

Excellent study of the balancing forces of dynamic man
Excellent book on movement and the structure and function of the body. I took a summer intensive with the dance company Jump Rhythm Jazz Project and we were given portions of this book to read. There is truly nothing new under the sun. Portions of this text were originally part of a class syllabus for the author to her students back in 1929. There is much to learn here about how to truly get your body in a relaxed state while living and striding in the 21st Century.

Per me ottimo.
