awesome value, has its tradeoffs
This thing is great FOR THE PRICE for the purposes of standalone noodling, travel, and at-desk MIDI/noodling. I have a real digital piano now, but I still have a lot of fun with this and noodle on it a little bit most days. I would definitely recommend it for learning or noodling if the tradeoffs that make this price+portability possible are acceptable to you! The voices are nothing to write home about, but they're definitely not toy keyboard sounds and are pleasant enough to enjoy playing for a while at a time. The mini keys are what they are. I wear a men's small glove; they're fine for me, but not as comfortable as full-size keys. Similarly, the three-octave range is just barely sufficient in combination with the octave switch. I don't think the instrument would be worthwhile in terms of portability without these tradeoffs, though. The touch response is functional; maybe a bit limited dynamic range and a bit quantized in terms of distinct volume levels, but it's fine for what it is. This thing uses remarkably little power. I keep a 1ft USB micro B to USB C cable attached at all times and just plug it into my phone, battery bank, laptop, or docking station. The main tradeoff for this low power consumption is a really sad little three-digit seven-segment display. The phrase recorder and arpeggiator are briefly neat to play with, but they're not really interesting to me personally. They're a bit frustrating due to the wildly different volumes between voices combined with the per-"channel" volume settings being limited and confusing. The speaker and headphone jack have a soft hiss to them. It's not very noticeable when playing, but you wouldn't want to record it. The speaker is mediocre at best in most aspects, but I'm happy it exists for lazy practice/noodling without having to grab headphones. MIDI works great with the same USB micro B to USB C cable connected to my phone or laptop. I only really use it for note + velocity input, but apparently a lot of the other functions like the phrase recorder, arpeggiator, and instrument selection buttons are exposed over MIDI as well. There's no memory for settings, but it's fairly quick to poke a few buttons on startup. For me, that's usually: power on, press PIANO to switch to the electric piano voice, turn volume up, turn octave down. If using for MIDI: shift+local control to off, shift+auto power off to disable.

Best portable keyboard out there for its price!
Best portable keyboard out there! Excellent keybed! To me it felt exactly the same as the Yamaha Reface series's keybed. The sounds are really great, the pianos, the leads, strings - all of them. The recorder function is really handy! You can record 1 track + 1 arps track, so kind of works like more than 1 track. Can be powered by your iPhone (or iPad/laptop), and also with 4 x AA batteries. In terms of sound quality, keybed and portability, I would confidently say this keyboard is probably the best one out there!

Better than I hoped for. What a great little keyboard.
Wow! I bought this little keyboard to use at my desk with my laptop for composing and practicing. I have a Yamaha 67-key keyboard for performing. This little keyboard sounds a good as my big one. It works with my laptop and my amplifier so it will probably go with me to garage band practice. I can also use it as a midi. The piano and organ voices are excellent. Highly recommend!

It's ... ok
If you gave this to me without the branding and without knowing anything about it I would not have guessed it was a Yamaha product, nor would I guess that it cost a hundred bucks. It has a lot of "features" and a ton of versatility, which brings it up from a 3-star, but only just barely. The core of it just isn't that great. The keyboard itself just feels cheap. The sound is actually pretty decent. Although the volume levels of some of the instruments is hugely different from the others, which seems like a basic quality control issue and one of those things that would make you think this was some cheap knock-off instead of a proper Yamaha instrument. On top of that, when using headphones there is a noticeable level of noise (hiss), even though it's fairly quiet. The structure is also not very sturdy, but there's good news and bad news there. The bad news is that mine was warped enough that it wouldn't sit flat with all four feet on a table, with maybe a full quarter inch of movement between the feet. The good news is that the body of the keyboard is so soft that you can just apply a very modest amount of force to bend it and make it sit flat (which is what I did). OK, enough complaining, what are the good things about it? Being able to use batteries makes it very convenient. As I mentioned, the actual sounds it makes are not half bad given the price. The keys are actually reasonably velocity sensitive, which is pretty impressive for a cheap portable keyboard. It's also very portable. Overall, it makes for a decent instrument for practicing or noodling around. I just wish that it had a little bit more attention put into the hardware side at this price level.

Perfect travel keyboard!
I needed a small keyboard for my kids to practice piano during our vacation, the keyboard we have is a standard one (88 keys). I ordered this mini keyboard and I’m very pleased with it. It has everything for practice on the go, the size is perfect, It’s battery operated and the sound is pretty good; they keys response is amazing. Keep in mind the size of the keys are smaller. I agree with one of the reviews about when you take it out of the box it gives you the feeling of a toy, it’s smaller than I thought, lighter and it looks fragile, but once you try it, play it, you can tell it’s not a toy! it worth every penny. It’s fragile, so you will need a storage case for it. I ordered the LTGEM EVA Hard Storage Case for Alesis V25 | 25 Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller - Travel Protective Carrying Bag (outer dimensions 22.2" L – 9" W – 3" H.) and it fits like a glove. I’m attaching pictures.

Perfect fit for those among us that have medical issues with their hands.
Almost perfect. 2 imperfections I twist my head at not understanding. 1. USB b is all but obsolete. Why Yamahama. 😆. 2nd, a simple $00.25 Bluetooth audio connection to earphone and or powered speakers would be really nice. Not midi. Cord is fine there. Otherwise, the perfect small platform keyboard on the market. My hands have deficits from medical matters and I've failed miserably on full sized keys, and most keyboards with the mini keys and aimed at kids and the keys are a bit too mini. The keys on this lovely unit fit my jumpy fingers with perfection. Thanks for you Yamaha.

ALMOST good
I wanted a small keyboard to just mess around with on the couch when I get an idea; and design-wise it fulfills this purpose well. The reason I give this 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is because some of the details are just inexcusable. The charging port is a micro-usb. You'd think this would be great since everyone has one of these cables because everyone had a phone that uses one. But this form factor just doesn't work for a portable keyboard. The cable will constantly be falling out and the way the port is rigged in the piano is extremely precarious... you have to set the cable in juuuuuuust the right way to not get the keyboard turning off randomly. Over time the port got set into the keyboard further and further until it's hard for me to even get the cable provide power. And as of today one of the keys lost all its touch sensitivity and only plays at max volume. I've had this keyboard 8 months and have used it only lightly. Cheap materials is the only explanation for this and while this is a $99 keyboard I would expect more than an 8 months lifespan for the basic features to work. Overall I want Yamaha to continue down this path of mini keyboards because the actual design and features are good but I really hope they use a different port to power it for the next model (one that can withstand moving around while it's plugged in) and maybe up their part quality to last longer than 8 months (can we get up to 2 years at least?).

Customer Service from Chamberlain Music is good.
After three weeks the keyboard stopped working. I contacted the seller, Chamberlain music and they replaced it straight away with a new keyboard. No problems since.

Travel keyboard
Purchased as a travel keyboard, it's better than a toy keyboard, but it's no reface CP. Fun with the arpegiator and recorder functions. Something to doat the resort when it's rainy or I get bored of the pool. If it goes missing, it's cheap enough I won't care.

Love this keyboard.
After watching lots of reviews this was worth buying. The sample sounds are really good for the price. It is light and portable working with my iPad as well. The option to use effects, layer tracks and library are great. Glad to own this gem.
