Good choice of vocabulary and variation of simple grammatical constructs for a beginning reader

Mandarin Companion are great books for the beginning Chinese reader, keep them coming!

Great idea, I just wish there was a vocabulary list somewhere of the 150 characters (or the 300 or 450 in the more advanced books). When I encounter a word I don't recognize, I'm stumped and it slows down my progress. Maybe there is one, but I haven't been able to find it.

I preferred the Zhou Haisheng story more than this one.

A fun story that uses a limited vocabulary well. New words are introduced with brief footnotes as they come up. This story is readable by anyone with an HSK1 vocabulary level. Like Jeff Pepper's Mulan, this is a good story for someone with limited Chinese that wants something interesting to read for practice.

Il libro è un ottimo testo per chiunque abbia una conoscenza del cinese contemporaneo almeno di livello HSK2.

Très bien pour découvrir des textes en dehors des supports de cours.De petits chapitres agréables à lire avec d'utiles précisions grammaticales (rédigées en ANGLAIS) et quelques notes en pinyin.J'achèterai d'autres livrets car le nombre de caractères précisé pour chaque fascicule permet de s'évaluer puis de progresser surtout quand on étudie toute seule comme moi.

I love the graded readers from Mandarin Companion. They make learning Chinese much more fun, natural and motivating as I can read a book in Chinese (without pinyin). Highly recommend to anyone learning Chinese as much more engaging than text book stories/dialogues.

I bought this book for my daughter (eventually her level will let her read this book - she is 6 years old). I'm a upper intermediate level in Chinese and I really liked this book. I also bought "My teacher is a Martian" and I really liked this one too. Easy to follow and good story.
