Well made, but .........
Persevered with this, but still ended up looking like the survivor of a plane crash. Have gone back to Wilkinson Hydro 5 blades which I recommend.

Cheap & nasty or value for money? Most definitely VFM & far better than expected!
I needed new blades for my King C Gillette double edge razor & happened upon Amazon's own brand razor complete with 100 blades. I suppose this package is aimed at newbies & I was curious to see what kind of quality & shaving experience you get for just over a tenner.Well the package arrived in a no frills cardboard box containing said razor & 10 cartons holding 10 blades each. The blades have no manufacturer's marking and look unremarkable individually wrapped in greaseproof paper, the carton has a slot in the back to slide in & store used blades, which I like. The razor is a little lighter but longer than the Gillette, see photo - Amazon razor on the left the Gillette on the right. It is a different design, a single piece barndoor style opened a closed by turning the lower part of the handle as opposed to the 3 piece Gillette. I like the barndoor design it's quicker and easier to change blades. Having the blade in place I checked the alignment & found the blade equally spaced on both cutting edges & parallel to the safety bar which is important to prevent cuts. Overall the quality of this Amazon razor is not to the standard of the Gillette, the handle is not milled but seems to be stamped or forged?& the plating is not to the same quality either, the head is nicely made though. Overall this is a solid piece of kit, holds the blade securely & I liked the ergomics of the longer handle. For a fair comparison I took out the 2 use Gillette blade from the Gillette razor & placed it in the Amazon razor for the first shave. For the next shave I replaced the blade with one of the supplied blades. Now for nubies to the double edged razor world to get a good shave in my opinion you have to buy into the whole wet shave ethos. That means using a preshave cream, a shaving cream/soap, brush & aftershave. You don't have to spend a fortune, for instance a good quality Proraso preshave & a Proraso shaving cream is around £14 or so which will last ages & you can buy a fantastic Paco Rabanne 1 Million clone from Lidl for £4 'The No.1' stop sniggering at the back there! The alcohol closes the pores & does a mild cleansing job on the skin. Yes you will feel the burn, but you'll feel great after! Now to the shaving experience. I found the ergonomics of the Amazon razor superior to the Gillette, the handle is nicely grippy, using the Gillette blade I found the razor slightly milder than Gillette razor, which is probably a good thing if you're a newbie. When I used one of the Amazon blades this confirmed my opinion that this is a milder razor, don't go thinking a mild razor won't be sharp or give you a close shave & if you're careless won't nick you! Overall I like this Amazon combo, it's smooth & does the business. If you're a newbie I recommend checking out YouTube for shaving techniques it might just save you a lot of discomfort. Once you've cracked the technique you won't be going back to the ridiculously overpriced 5 bladed disposables. As for electric shavers yes they are convenient & take less time but nothing beats the experience of a double edged safety razor.

Simple but good
I really like shaving with these double edged razors. Blade go blunt very quickly but it does a good job.

Excellent in all respects (UPDATE to original review) Still Excellent
As you can see from the 2 attached images I have several razors and a small selection of blades. The larges of all the razors is the amazon branded one and the unbranded blades are those which came with it.Does it shave well - yes it does. It has a bigger handle than I am used to but it was comfortable and easy to use. It's quite heavy, just a little heavier than my Edwin Jagger de89 but that's nice. The butterfly mechanism is simple to use and blade insertion is simplicity itself.I would note that the left to right head dimensions are 2 to 3 mm more than my other razors, making the head just that bit bigger. This does not impede the shaving performance in any way and prevents blade extrusion from the left and right edges. I normally trim these off the blades before use in my other razors. The blades perform well, there were no nicks or razor burn at the end of my shave. The shave was smooth and I found the head moved across my face in a way that felt remarkably similar to my E J DE89. I would say they are similar enough not to warrant any meaningful differentiation. This is a nice razor, the blades perform well, buy it, use it and enjoy a really good smooth shave.Great value for money.--------------------------------------The above was my original review and I have been shaving with this razor and blades for a week.I must say there is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING between this razor and my preferred razor - to the point where I cannot tell the difference. The supplied blades are really nice and taking over from my previous "favourites".I did experiment using the same blade in my Edwin Jagger to shave the left hand side of my face and then switched out the the blade and put it into the supplied razor. The end result was - er.......... Well I just could not tell.SO - the next day I shaved the right hand side of my face with my EJ (with my favourite blades) and used this razor with the supplied blades to shave the other (I used new blades for each - to ensure a fair comparison) and again - NO DIFFERENCE.This has disappointed me just a little as I had previously considered my EJ to be a quality razor that others would find hard to beat. This razor is just super and the blades work very well indeed. If you do cut yourself with this kit - you must be doing something wrong. I have been a wet shaver BEFORE the invention of the disposable so I do have some experience, perhaps that counts.HOWEVER - the threads on my DE89 stripped a few days ago - making the razor unusable - so I switched to this one "full time" - quite honestly I couldn't care if EJ send me a replacement top cap (after sending in a complaint and a photo as proof) because this razor is SO good. It occurs to me that if the razor lasts 3 months, the same as my EJ DE89, I could throw it away and buy a new one - this is still cheaper than 3 months worth of horrible plastic but I shall wait to see if the mechanics of this razor last.I repeat the statement from my original review "Great value for money". I might just buy another.

Great product
This is a great razor, has all you need to get started with solid build quality - much cheaper than disposables and the shave you get is infinitely better. The blade switching mechanism is easy to use and satisfying. It’s a no brainer!

Not bad
I’m using it to shave my head. Feels nice in hand, nice grip and weight is good. Only problem after month of using, closing mechanism is little bit loose.
