Well written
Very interesting history of Milwaukee beer, breweries and hooch. You'll find it interesting even if you're not from Milwaukee.

A beer historians delight!
Martin Hintz has written an excellent book regarding the history of alcohol in the city that made beer famous. He outlines Milwaukee's earliest brewing history and follows with a detailed accounting as the major breweries of the area developed. He follows families and buy outs through expansion, diversification and Prohibition. Sprinkled throughout are great stories of the beer makers and drinkers alike. His descriptive writing regarding the age of the age of Milwaukee's famous bier halls and beer gardens made me long for these buildings and experiences. Of minor note was the loss of steam towards the end with chapters on unions and recipes. It detracted from the focus of the book and came across as filler. If you are a fan of history and/or beer I HIGHLY recommend this book. Those with a passing interest may not enjoy it as much as I did.

Have not read this book yet, but I think will be most interesting.Always enjoyed Milwaukee and now have a condo there for the summer months. This will be a fun read, knowing how large and important the beer industry wasin past years and when we were younger.
