The Pilgrim

I have read many Bunn books and love his early stuff. I think he has gotten too prolific, and find a certain sameness or shallowness in some of his books that his poetic and descriptive language cannot adequately overcome. His more recent offerings seem stale in comparison to much of his earlier work. No one has ever compared him with Hemingway or Dickens, but he has the ability to paint a pretty picture at times, and give some character development that seems to have been ignored these days. You cared about the central figures in the earlier books, even one such as Imposter, which was way outside of anything he had done, in my view. Now, everything seems flat and two dimensional. Not that I could do better, mind you.

Also not one of T. Davis Bunn's better works. Perhaps the most intriguing thing about this story is the perspective. Seldom if ever have I run across a story of the Exodus written from the perspective of someone participating who was not Jewish. Also food for thought as to what they endured in order to be free of slavery. A little too much emphasis on the romance angle for my taste.

Terrific read for anyone who enjoys stories of early Christians, their struggles, triumphs, and unwavering faith. I enjoyed the story and also the historical details woven skillfully into the narrative. this is my first book by this author, but I plan to read others.

I have enjoyed many of Davis Bunn's novels, but NOT this one. I realize he is telling a story instead of writing a typical novel. However, if no one has ever heard of Helena, there is some historical significance in the telling.

I chose this book because Mr Bunn is one of my favorite authors. And as usual I was blessed by reading this book. His books get to a deep place inside you that is hungry and you didn't even know it was. I would recommend this book to anyone who is grieving or in difficulty. It was an encouragement and help and reminder of the goodness of God.

Like stepping through a tear in time. I felt transported to this place, and like I could experience their world. After reading 50 books under different pen names, I rank him as one of the most gifted and powerful authors of our time. Please keep writing!

Dry. Unfortunately, the author doesn't take us to the time and place well. This is a much bigger story condensed down to...dust.

Exceptional. Very interesting historical novel. As usual, Bunn puts a personal spin on Christian history making it very compelling to continue reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. This is a book that gets me involved with the main characters, so that I research them when I finish reading. I highly recommend this novel.

I chose this rating because I could not stop reading it once I started. It has wrung an emotional response from me which has surprised me. It has enabled the strengthening of my faith. This book is bound to affect any person reading it with an open mind.

As with all the books of Davis Bunn,it is an excellent one,and I would recommend it to everyone.BF.

I really enjoyed this book. Not surprising, I usually like his books. This one was great. It fed the need in my soul to be lifted up in faith. Really encouraging.

This was a good book but not Davis Bunns best. I enjoyed it but there was just something missing. Unfortunately I can not identify specifically what bothered me. I think maybe if felt too contrived.

A most enjoyable no el. It may hz ve been totally as far as this particular story went but there were elements that were of some historic value.Didn't take long to read but that didn't take away from the storyline. In essence the same challenges to believers remains - you have to keep focus and face the challenges head on.
