Naked, with Glasses Paperback – May 9, 2013

Sometimes complex and difficult alone would suggest the collection is not a good read. In this case, it's combined with "fantastic". I wanted to put that first. This isn't an easy read at times but it is completely rewarding.The stories are varied and always interesting. I read the KOMMANDANT's MISTRESS so was curious and perhaps lean towards Ms. Szeman's EXCELLENT writing (and editing). This is for the reader who's not feeling for an escapism read. This is more for an actively engaged reader... so not a by-the-dock-with-wine-read. But wine can always help any book, no?Great writer.

I read the Kommandant's mistress and had to have more of this author. Her stories are intriguing and I reread some of them.

I'm only about half-way through, but just had to say I'm loving this story collection! I'll report back more when I'm finished. Just had to say it's worth a read. Very, very intense and moving--and amazingly diverse characters who feel and sound real to my inner ear.

I loved this collection. It's in a very informal style, as if the author is talking to you directly. The titular short is about in-laws, and the line about Aunt Mabel getting fat in particular made me laugh out loud.I do wonder if the collection needs quite so much preamble before the actual stories, as there is a big section talking about the author/ her background/ the origin of the stories, and I just wanted to read the stories.Well worth a read during the morning commute.
