The Friendly Swede Stylus Pen for Touchscreen with Replaceable Thin Tips

UPDATED REVIEW- 1/19/2014 After my initial review and 3-star rating, someone from The Friendly Swede contacted me and thanked me for my feedback, offering me a replacement set of my choice. I was leaning toward just getting another set of the 5.5" thin tipped version- thinking it was a fluke that one of the 3 I originally received seemed defective (more on that later). But I was also curious about the 4.5" thicker tipped ones since they were shorter and might be a little more convenient to keep with my tablet. I ended up going with the 5.5" ones, but they ALSO included a set of the 4.5" styli!! And both reps I dealt with were extremely friendly and nice. This is clearly a company dedicated to great customer service. So now I've had a chance to test both types from the Friendly Swede, and also a few other styli (including Wacom Bamboo). Hands down, Friendly Swede wins for excellent quality and value, and outstanding customer service. And the colors they offer are gorgeous. I've had to adjust my expectations about how a capacitive stylus is supposed to work. Basically, it isn't a pen- and even the thinnest of styli aren't going to give you the experience of a pen on paper. The new Microsoft Surface has a very thin tipped, pressure sensitive Pro Pen-which is kind of what I had expected in a stylus. But that is a special technology- and it's still not the same as paper and pen- it feels weird to have a hard tip writing on glass. So now, knowing the limits of capacitive styli, and having spent quite some time playing with different types, I am very happy with the Friendly Swede styli. Even the silver one I originally thought was defective isn't so bad, now that my expectations are adjusted. I can't see any reason to ever purchase another brand of stylus. Original review- 1/8/2014 I wanted to love these, I really did. Based on the ratings, everyone else does. But the tips are not as thin as I expected, and the first one I tried out of the package (silver) didn't work very well- I had to press REALLY hard in order to get my Nexus 7 to respond. I tried the next one (black) and it was a little better- but I still had to press hard and it was not as precise as I would have liked. The third one (red) was about the same as the black, maybe a little better. But none of them are as precise or responsive as the ballpoint pen/penlight/stylus gizmo I got as a gift a few months ago, which these were intended to replace. Upon further inspection, the tip on the silver stylus sticks out a lot further than the other two. I tried changing out the tip, but no matter what tip or cowling I put on the silver one, it always sticks out a lot further. I think this is the source of the problem- the tip sticks out too far and creates a little bubble at the end of the stylus that is too fragile/squishy. If you hold the styli up side by side, the silver sticks out the furthest, the black sticks out less, and the red a little less than that-which roughly corresponds to their performance. All of them stick out further than the pen/stylus I've been using- and because the tips are narrower, it makes them less stable. Other than that, they're great- the form factor is good, I love the lanyards, and they are a great value. My husband tried them out on his Microsoft Surface and he agreed the silver one is a problem but he finds the other two OK. So we will be keeping them. But I will continue searching for another solution. I just can't get used to writing with a fat, imprecise stylus. Maybe I'm just too picky and I should give up on the idea entirely- I suppose you can't expect a stylus on a tablet to ever approach pen and paper.

The Friendly Swede seems to be the premier stylus for our touch screen devices. I've seen a couple of people with them, and after ordering the LG G3, I figured I now fit into 'phablet' category and should consider keeping my screen free of prints, as it is a big and beautiful display. The stylus works great.. As for the lanyard they provide, that thing is a hoax.. Didn't last longer than a few days, just not good quality. I literally went through both lanyards right away, within a matter of days.. The phone port attachment works fine, and as intended. But the string just isn't durable, and pops/snaps. This happened once for sure during exit of the auto.. Seat belt snatched it up.. Be careful! I found some cool replacement lanyards though, 'short coiled tethers', they're called, also on Amazon. A liiiitle shorter than I'd like, but you won't have to worry about those snapping off at the nearest hint of obstruction. The cord that comes with these styluses are plenty long, probably intended for big tablets that aren't on your hip anyway. I only gave it 4 stars because of the included string. Product works good, and I didn't bother dealing w/ customer service. The pictures included are literally from after 2 days or so of use. I work in an office setting, and handles are pretty light! I like the colors and the stylus itself works very well and accurately. It doesn't drag on the screen and the touch screens respond very well to it without pushing hard or repeatedly. They feel sturdy and comfortable in the hand. I don't use the lanyard but it's thin and sturdy, so for those of you who do use a lanyard, this probably would work well.

In my household, there are five users of tech gadgets! Included are myself, my husband and our three kiddos. So needless to say, stylus pens have become very popular here. Not only do they keep fingerprints off the screen but they also help those with bigger digits (hubby) see what they are selecting "on screen" more easily. In the past we have tried several styli designs. The ones with pens on one end that you flip upside down to use the stylus were a flop for us. These inevitably leaked ink everywhere and even after cleaning up the mess, then using the stylus alone, they always wore out shortly after. Others we had tried had huge tips that reminded us of those beginner crayons toddlers sometimes use. Hubby's fingertips were smaller than those! Onward in my quest for the perfect stylus, I found this bundle from "The Friendly Swede" and I'm so happy I did! The bundle comes with three pens, an additional set of three replacement heads and three lanyards. I'll admit, we don't use the lanyards much but I can see where they'd definitely come in handy at a modern office that uses tablets and such. You wouldn't have to worry about losing yours! The pens themselves are very well made and sturdy. They are made from aluminum and stainless steel so there's no plastic to crack on you! They have a very nice weight to them and feel very smooth in your hands. They are just a tad bit thicker in diameter than a standard wooden pencil so gripping is easy for us. If you do find that you need a bigger grip though, I would imagine a pencil grippy could be placed on these but I have not personally had a need to try that. There is also a "clip" on these pens such as you find on ink pens. They easily clip onto a chest pocket with no need to worry about ink stains. Moving on to the tips, they are a bit smaller than a rounded off eraser you'd find on a standard wooden pencil. Definitely much smaller and precise than the pad of my index finger! This may not be ideal for handwritten notes as an ultra fine tip might work better for that but these do the job just fine for us. Again, much better than our index finger pads do! Next, I want to talk about the replacement heads. There are three heads/tips included that are already installed on the styli with an additional three included for future use. We have not had the need to replace our tips/heads yet but for the sake of a thorough review, I changed one to see if it would be a difficult task. NOPE! It's extremely easy! The silver colored part at the tip of the stylus unscrews, you pull the old tip off and put the new one on, then simply screw the silver colored piece back on. Easy as pie! The tips/heads slide effortlessly across the screens for us too. No catching or skipping that we've noticed at all! Customer service from "The Friendly Swede" is fabulous also! I did need to contact them due to the postal service annihilating my original package. The replied very quickly, in a courteous manner and solved my problem instantly! Super awesome customer support! Just received my 3 pack sylus pens from The Friendly Swede. I LOVE them!!! The only way I could previously text with my smart phone (a Samsung Stratosphere) was by using the talk text feature. I have very small hands and still couldn't get the hang of hitting the keys just right all the time. Unlike my kids whose fingers fly!! I am one of the over 50 group who the kids just love to make fun of when texting!!I was used to always using the keyboard on my other phone and when I upgraded to a touch screen, I realized I needed a stylus. The pens are great - a good weight - very comfortable to hold and I like the length. I bought the black, silver and red and they are all equally nice looking. I started texting immediately and no more errors!! With the lanyard I don't have to hunt around for it either. I like the microfiber cloth too. I had some questions before I purchased and contacted the company. I was emailed back very quickly and all my questions were answered. The representative also told me about their new microfiber tipped stylus which is a little better quality. The reason I choose the rubber tip is because of the extra thin precision tip and the 3 replacement tips. The company states each tip should last between 3 and 6 months, so with the 4 tips I have, I anticipate not having to replace them for a long while. I heartily recommend these pens for not only the quality of the item, but the excellent customer service they provide. The rep was sure to tell me if there was any problems, questions, concerns once I received the pens to get back to her and they would take care of any needs I might have. The price was right as well, actually, I believe the price is a steal for what you get!

These are pretty good but I think the ones with the mesh tip are better and you can find them on here cheaper for more. Otherwise they're almost identical in the bodies, although the tip on the mesh ones is larger. Good length.

I've discovered I really enjoy Autodesk Sketchbook Pro on my Samsung Tab 3 and, as you can imagine, a good stylus is extremely useful if not necessary in this case. I've tried the following and will summarize my personal take on them below: 1. Amazon Basics Stylus- The name says it all. Basic. It's built well enough and is satisfactory as a general use stylus but doesn't do much for me for Sketchbook or similar drawing apps. For $6-8 this stylus was probably a more practical choice two years ago before better ones became cheaper. I'd call this average at this point but also a good starting point to compare to others. 2. amPen Hybrid Stylus- I really like this one. It's the newer direction manufacturers have gone lately which has a fabric wrapped over the rubber tip. This stylus is average size and length. Nearly identical to the Amazon Basics in this respect, same length and girth of the barrel. The tip is wonderful and again almost identical in size to the Amazon Basics one so I think we can say they are both the standard size these days. The fabric wrapped around the tip works very well and is definitely superior to the Amazon Basics. This is my favorite general use stylus by far. The tip seems sturdier and slightly smaller compared to a similar one offered by the Friendly Swede but I'll speak more on that later. This one works quite well for Sketchbook but the fatter tip is the only slight negative in that instance. At about $8, this is a no-brainer over the Amazon Basics version. Five stars for feel and superior tip. Not a bargain compared to Friendly Swede but is comparably priced to the Amazon version that it surpasses. 3. The Friendly Swede 7.3" Micro Knit Hybrid Fiber Tip 3 pack- What sets this apart is it's length and price. The fiber tip is better than the Amazon Basics rubber only tip but seems slightly more flimsy than the amPen. Another slight disadvantage this has compared to the Amazon Basics and the amPen, is the metal it's made of is very slick. The Amazon Basics has a very subtle roughness that gives superior grip and the amPen is a bit odd as it has a coating that is smooth and provides a good grip at the same time. The length can overcome this somewhat but may possibly be too long for some users, myself included. BUT...A three pack of these with the fiber tip and the length considered for only about $8, when I bought them, makes this probably one of the best deals for a household that could use multiple styli. These are well built despite their bargain. The length is a put-off for me but some users may appreciate it and for drawing apps it falls short because, again, the length is too much in this instance and the shorter, superior tipped amPen wins out here. I'd still grant the five stars for the better tip, though slightly larger and weaker than the amPen, and the bargain is tough to ignore. 4. The Friendly Swede 5.5" Thin Tip 3 pack- Very standard size except it is slightly longer than the Amazon Basics or amPen. The absolute best quality of this stylus is its length. The 5.5" is the perfect length in my opinion. I really appreciate the thinner tip for drawing apps but this one is pretty flimsy compared the the Bamboo Pocket Expandable stylus, which I'll talk about later. Despite the superior length and thinner tip, I still prefer the amPen for drawing and general use. This version suffers also from the same slick feel as its longer cousin. That being said, it's the perfect length and the thinner tip is nice for drawing but is quickly spoiled by the flimsy tip. It is also a bargain at three for $11 and comes with three replacement tips which slightly makes up for the somewhat flimsy tip. A well made, good stylus but just not quite great. Five stars for length, bargain, and thinner tip even if it is a tad wimpy in my opinion. 5. Zebra Stylus Twist Pen- I'll make this quick. It has a great length, close to the 5.5" Friendly Swede, but it is a bit too skinny and the rubber end it very very wimpy. Think of a week old balloon you blew up for a birthday party and that's about how sturdy it is. The pen, which was a draw for me, is pretty gray and not even up to par with other Zebra pens I own. This product was nothing but a compromise. A mediocre pen with a mediocre stylus end. Three stars because it has good length and both functions. Still a BIG pass if your main goal is a stylus which was mine. Try not to buy this out of loyalty to Zebra pens. You'll be disappointed. 6. Bamboo Expandable Pocket Stylus- My overall favorite. Has a thin tip and is sturdier than the Friendly Swede. For drawing, the tip plus the large grip works very well. It's expandable and, at its full length, is about as long as the Amazon Basics or amPen. It also has a cool attachment that plugs into the headphone port and nests to the tip of the stylus so it's easy to remove. Others offer this too but are permanently attached to the top end of the stylus and I like the way Bamboo does it better. It also gives some colored rings so you can personalize it somewhat. It's neat and thoughtful, but obviously does nothing for function. This is the best made stylus of the lot. Just had that indescribable feel of quality. Also comes with a replacement tip and, for a thin tip stylus, it has a nice heft to it. Compared to other rubber tipped styli, it's easily better made. I love this for compactness, strong and thin tip is great for drawing, and thicker grip helps this too despite being average length. Five stars for less than $9. I'll note that I still like the amPen the best for general tablet use and navigation but this one feels just right for drawing in my opinion. In summary, the Amazon Basics is solid but old news with better ones close to its price point. The Friendly Swede offers the best bargain and variety of length and is made well enough. Just skip the Zebra Twist Pen altogether. The amPen is pretty awesome. It has good grip, great tip, and is very capable for drawing. If you don't care about drawing, I'd probably recommend the amPen for those who use a stylus often. I personally only use a stylus for drawing so my personal favorite is the Bamboo Expandable Stylus for reasons mentioned above. It and the amPen cost around $8-9 and are the two highest quality offerings here.

Der Stift funktioniert prima, ist gut für Tablet nutzbar. Die Sensibilität könnte etwas besser sein, bei hohen Temperaturen oder geringer Luftfeuchtigkeit spricht er nicht so gut an.

Excellent stylus pens, I have purchased these pens before and they have lasted a long time, but also they are quality pens and very accurate. They do not wear out after a few weeks like other makes do. I would honestly recommend these pens to anyone.
