A Lifetime Acquisition
I can scarcely believe that I own a Bible like this. It's something you want to get early in life and use it until you have no life. It's truly beautiful, and the supple goatskin leather cover makes it a pleasure to hold and to smell. I wanted a genuine leather Bible so that it would lay open easily and not close on itself. It does that. The paper is pure Quality with a capital Q The 9.5 font is smaller than I would like, but it is dark black on the white pages, and easy to read. I was hoping to get a large=print Bible and investigated a number of them, but what they call large-print is actually only between an 11.5 and 12 font, maybe 12.5. That's not large print. It does not have thumb page-finders but honestly, I've had them, and they're not worth it. Your Bible ends up looking years older than it is when the pages get frayed from the thumb page-finders. And here's a little piece of advice: do not waste your time or money on those DIY indexes. The pages to which they get attached rip quickly, and when you are through taping them back on, your bible looks like it came from a yard sale -- in 1903. This is a Study Bible and then some. In his inimitable way, there is nothing MacArthur doesn't cover. The layout makes it the easiest Bible I've ever used for cross-referencing, and looking up anything, including maps, timelines, charts, and fascinating comments and facts. I was hoping to get a red- or blue-letter Bible to delineate Jesus' words from the rest of the text, but alas, it is not. You will want to have enough money to buy a cover with a handle immediately because it is large and somewhat heavy -- certainly unwieldy. Without a carrying case, it would be difficult to negotiate walking any distance with it if you had other things to carry. I started reading mine immediately, from Page 1, because all the preliminary information and introductions are tantalizing, and much more extensive than you would find in an ordinary Bible. Getting through just the peripheral information is almost like taking a seminary course, much less getting to the actual scriptures. I regret I didn't have this magnificent Bible decades ago.

Love this Bible!
This Bible has everything you need for a deep study of God's Word. The study notes by Dr. MacArthur are thorough and easily understood and the introductions to each book of the Bible help to understand the author and date that they were written, background and setting, historical and theological themes, interpretive challenges, and an outline of each book. Included are maps and charts, chronology of the Old and New Testaments, Monies, weights and measures, and so much more. This is my go-to Bible for every day study. You will grow in your understanding of the Word if you use this Bible.

Awesome Study Bible !
My first MacArthur study Bible was the ESV (printed 2006), but the print is too small and too light. Too difficult for me to read, so I'm giving the ESV to a friend in Nepal. I ordered the NASB (large print) by mistake, and was going to return it, but decided to keep the NASB, since I onliy have a very small pocket NASB New Testament. I trust John MacArthur as a rock solid Bible teacher. This Bible is beautiful, large print very easy for me to read. The Bible text is dark, but the Commentary Notes are still too light (a bit darker than the ESV though). The Commentary Notes have certain words in dark, bold print, easy enough to read. The Cross References are still too small for me, but I can read (much better than the ESV, which is way too small !!!).I got the NASB with the Thumb Tabs, which are beautiful, embossed with gold color, makes it much easier to find the Bible books quickly and easily.I notice that the maps in the ESV and NASB are quite different, even the maps with the same title. I like the maps in both the ESV and the NASB. Maps in both versions have unique features.I found a difference in the Index to Key Bible Doctrines (Appendix in the back). The NASB (printed 2010) has added references to "Baptism with the Holy Spirit". All other references in this section are the same in both the ESV and the NASB.I tested using a regular sized yellow highligher, and it works just fine, even though the pages are quite thin. Does not bleed to the other side of the page.I also ordered the NKJV MacArthur Study Bible (large print), which should arrive today. Now I can do some serious Bible study .... comparing different versions > MacArthur Study Bibles: NASB and NKJV > RSV (not MacArthur) > 1560 Geneva Bible > KJV Defenders Study Bible > NKJV Nelson Study Bible, and several other Bible versions.
