I enjoyed learning more about this complicated man.
You always hear the two extremes about Brando: he was a great actor, he was difficult to work with. It was nice to learn more about this man who really was an extremely talented actor.

A World of Movie Information
I found this to be one of the best unbiased reporting of a giant in the movie industry. A no nonsense, fair-minded account of a controversial personality of the 20th Century. A good review of the behind-the-scenes of Marlon Brando's movies with humorous and poignant anedoctal remarks. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it has led me to go back and watch many of Brando's movies with the knowledge at hand.

A Sympathetic Study of Brando
A fascinating, tortured, uncontrollable, yet intelligent and sensitive man. Kanfer does not shy away from Brando's many faults and failures, yet still manages to produce a sympathetic and moving study of the man.

Surprised to enjoy it!
As a nonfan of Brando, I had to be talked by my husband into reading this book. It was fascinating. Lots of interesting info about the entertainment industry as well as Brando and his friends. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys movies.

How difficult was Marlons life how unfairly judged
I love all books on Marlon. This one though though writing on similar things about Marlon gives a lenghty background and a different perspective, oftentimes the anecdotes are given a different twist... It is difficult to say which were the true ones but it still makes for compelling reading. Sometimes one wishes there was more of Marlon and less of the political social background.

A superb actor in spite of himself
I read many actors' biographies and this is one of the best, or perhaps the best I read. It's an excellent portrait of a very tormented man, branded as he was since childhood by the relationship with his parents, mainly his father, who submitted him to his violent and belittling behaviour. Brando grew up with the conviction of being completely unable of achieving anything, and of being totally worthless, constantly troubled by a sense of rejection. He was never aware of his high talents as an actor, a career which had no value in his mind, and didn't require any talent. In spite of this he was excellent even in the worst movies he did. His life however was a shambles.Out of this psychologial background emerged a man, whose constant attitude od rebelliousness, apathy, and self indulgence was perhaps just a mask to hide his demons, yet a man extremely attractive to women, involved in a volatile whirlwind of relationships. Thoughtprovoking is Richard Burton's judgement of him: "Marlon's immorality, his attitude to it, is honest and clean: He is a genuinely good man, I suspect, and he is intelligent. "The book is full of information, with lots of interesting details about the actor, his movies, and the man and the people behind the scene. It's easy to read for the nice, discoursive tone.I found that a very great merit of this book is the unusually vast, deep, intelligent picture of the historical events and people of Marlon's times as well. The reason why i didn't give this book the deserved five stars is a sense of uneasiness I felt sometimes for the author's undertone when talking about the horrible times of McCarty witches' hunt, or Brando's social and antiracist activities; and some unpleasant innuendoes about Jews, which sounded to me motivated by prejudice, and therefore lack of objectivity.
