That Funny Feeling [DVD]

This Funny Movie . . . .
Never having seen a Sandra Dee--Bobby Darin movie, I feared the 99 cents it cost to rent might not be worth it. Would it be as unfunny as an Annette Funicello--Frankie Avalon movie? Fortunately, it wasn't. It had a lot of laughs. Sandra Dee plays a wannabe actress named Joan, who works for a maid service to pay the bills for a tiny apartment she shares with fellow actress Audrey (Nita Talbot). Luther (Larry Storch), another actor, is next door. Joan's newest cleaning job is for well-off Tom Milford (Bobby Darin).Joan cleans while he is at work, so she has no idea the man she keeps literally running into on the street is Tom. He is supposed to be out of town for 10 days, according to a note he left in his apartment for the maid. (His business trip was cancelled.) After a third run-in involving taxis, they go out for a drink. When he asks to take her home, she is too ashamed to take him to her apartment, so takes him to HIS apartment. As the new maid, she has the key, but won't let him inside after she goes inside. Being more intrigued by the situation than alarmed, Tom goes to stay with his best friend Harvey (Donald O'Connor). On the story goes with Joan and Audrey deciding to live in his apartment for 10 days. Both Sandra Dee and Bobby Darrin are really appealing characters. They also have a lot of help from the supporting cast. Beside Ms. Talbot and Mr. Storch, there is Leo G. Carroll, as a Scottish pawn shop owner who gives fatherly advice; and Rita Shaw, who has a "confrontation" with Mr. Darin outside of a phone booth. Yes, the film was well worth the 99 cent viewing fee. After watching it, I even ordered the book* about Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin written by their son. Sadly, that is not going to be a funny story.*"Dream Lovers: The Magnificent Shattered Lives of Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee" - by Dodd Darin

This is a very cute and funny movie and pretty much makes you chuckle all the way through. Sandra Dee plays a (looking for work) actress who works at a maid service to make ends meet, while living in a extremely tiny apartment with her best friend. She keeps running into business man Bobby Darin literally, so finally when their taxi's run into each other they decide to have a drink together. He wants to see her home but she doesn't want him to see her miniature apartment, so she lets him take her to an apartment that she cleans knowing the the real owner is out of town. The problem is, the owner is Darin who is not out of town. As they walk up the stairs and she stops at the door of his apartment he is totally dumbfounded but keeps his mouth shut as she goes inside, says goodbye and closes the door. He then tells his best friend, Donald O'Connor that he needs to stay with him until he can find out what is going on, because he really thinks she's something special and he doesn't want to mess it up. The rest of the movie consists of her trying not to let him find out who she is and him trying to find out what is going on, all the while they are both falling for each other. When she does find out that he knows and then figures he's trying make a fool out of her, she's out for a little revenge. This is not a deep movie, very lighthearted and very amusing, and good all the way through. Now I'm sure some people won't care for a movie this clean, no boozing, no 4 letter words, not a ton of sexual innuendo being said constantly, just good, funny, clean humor, that anyone can enjoy. Overall the cast is very good, and you can pop this movie in anytime you need a chuckle.

Funny mix-up story
Sandra Dee plays Joan Howell, a maid in NYC. She is an aspiring actress that will dress up then change into a maid's outfit at her employer. She literally bumps into Tom Milford, played by Bobby Darin, a savvy NYC publisher, and unbeknownst to her, her employer. After a number of encounters they go on a date, as Joan is embarrassed to show Tom her apartment, she takes him to her employer. She does not realizing she is letting Tom show her to his own apartment. Tom is extremely confused, leading to a number of humorous circumstances. Donald O'Connor plays Bobby's friend and colleague that Bobby frequently drops in on.This was a fun movie, the humor throughout is lighthearted and Donald O'Connor creates multiple comedic inserts.

DELIGHTFUL
Delightful romantic comedy with a twist. It’s what I’d call a B-grade chick flick for Bobby Darin/Sandra Dee people, but, since that includes me, I give it 5 stars for entertainment value. It made me smile, and laugh, and swoon a bit, and it’s one of those films you can watch with entire family. It’s a one-time watch, but it’s funniness lingers. I also got a kick out of the Darin/Dee “If A Man Answers.” I watched it twice, so I gather I think it was a little more fun that this one, but they’re on par with one another — enjoyable; a little something for everyone, even if it’s just Sandra Dee wriggling around in a bustier and loud, pink feathered boa.

NICE. FRESH. FUN.
The front and the back of this movie are worth the price of the DVD: Bobby Darin sings the song he has written the words and the music to, and as always, his voice is full of energetic smiles. I would have liked to have him singing to co-star Brenda Lee, but even without that, the movie is traditional 60s/70s fun. My DVD copy is clear, clean and with great sound track and colors.

I NEVER SAW THIS BEFORE SO I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT, THEIR COMEDIC DELIVERY AND TIMING WOULD LAND THEM IN THEIR OWN TV SITCOM IN TODAY'S WORLD.

Gem of a movie......
Recommended. Typical 1960's romantic comedy.......sit back and enjoy. Great transfer to DVD......superb colour and sound.Sandra and Bobby are at their best. The supporting cast are fantastic.......in my opinion, ''stars'' in the same category as the ''leads''.

Another film from the Darin and Dee combo
Slightly weaker story to their previous films but still enjoyable. It's a shame they didn't stay together as they had chemistry
