Hand Embroidery (not Machine) and no thread color key
Gorgeous embroidery photos by talented artists. However, it is strictly hand embroidery (my bad, I took thread painting to mean free motion machine embroidery). There are no 'paint by number' diagrams, you are on your own to match up esoteric Australian thread brand/color names to written instructions--very 19th century--to an outline drawing--only in one or two is there even a thread to thread color key. You have to have a very good eye for color against the color photograph. Not for a beginner by any means-but beautiful photography!

Good starter. Needs more detailed Information.
Nice quality book and the projects are interesting. I wish the book had more instruction on why certain techniques were used so I could apply them to my own work. I see pictures of other work and it looks like more than one strand is used but this book said always one strand. It’s great to see how to do the projects the author chose, but understanding why the colors were used, how to choose the colors, how to decide where to place shadows, choosing fabric, etc. Maybe that’s just more advanced. I will admit, thread painting is a lot harder than it looks and takes a LOT of practice to get even close to the results in the book. But I’m enjoying it. Persistence is greater than perfection. Keep practicing.

One of the best on the subject
Another outstanding book by Australian publisher that includes the techniques and projects from various embroiderers from around the world. All techniques have step by step photographs as well as the descriptions. Projects feature the supply list of all threads used and the sequence of the work. In the end of the book there are all patterns with stitch directions shown. There are not many books on the market that teach thread painting, they are mostly on Chinese embroidery, but this one is one of the best. You just cannot go wrong with Country Bumpkins publications. They also have a magazine for embroidery lovers called Inspirations that is worth buying as well.

Country Bumpkin has done it again!
As usual, Country Bumpkin have come up with another winner. Their amazing instruction books are worth every penny, and it arrived safely, packed in a very sturdy cardboard box, along with two other books on the same subject. I definitely recommend this book, with its wonderful, easy-to-follow, step-by-step instruction photos, along with lovely designs to work yourself.

good introduction to thread painting
good introduction for someone interested in this type of stitching...really well done as far as animals are concerned but I would have liked to see human faces dealt with as well. 4 others in my group have also bought this book after seeing mine & are using it for their work.

I really like this book
I really like this book, detailed instructions if you need your hand held, but also acknowledges there are alternatives. There is a mix of flowers, fruit, birds and small animals. The stitch direction diagrams, show you how you can go about making your own designs.
