A Sponsorship Guide for 12-Step Programs

This is a great book.. for people in the program. I have been in the program for 8 years and I have just gotten lucky enough to sponsor someone. This has been a great guide for me . I like being able to look at things and learn so this really tells you what you need to do to be a sponsor to someone in the program.It is very straight forward and it tells you what you need to know and it highlights all of the aspects that you need to guide your sponsee through.At first I was a little hesitant to purchase this book but I am really glad that I did. It has also just helped me in the program itself !.. With a very good understanding of what my role is as a sponsor of someone in the program.Glad that I live my life one day at a tiime !

This book is simply a compilation of opinions from various members of 12-Step groups. There is no general agreement among these opinions, so the inexperienced reader is left with no particular direction to follow. While I recognize that everyone follows their program differently, and that no ONE way is going to be effective with everyone, I was hoping for SOME sort of advice that would help me make sponsorship a better experience for both myself and the people I work with. I came away disappointed. I would not recommend this book who those who are looking for true guidance; they won't find it.

This had so many different opinions on how to be a sponsor that it was helpful in that a person go with their own personality style to deal with a sponsee. I was hoping for a more specific point by point proven success routine. This idea only because of the 12 steps being a rather specific guide. I did pass on to others who were struggling with procedure.

This book is a must-have if you have had no experience in sponsoring. The first person I gave it to read has 22 years in the program, and she loved it. I would definitely suggest you also buy "A Woman's Way to the Twelve Steps" workbook to go along with it. The combination of these two books has changed the entire way I sponsor - for the better.

I was confused when asked to be a sponsor but this book helped guide me in how to be the most effective to a newcomer.

Lots of good information in this book. Also a good example of the many different ways to sponsor!

Great resource book for anyone in the addiction field.

this book was not a good book..its other sponsors telling u how they liked doing things...not what i was hoping or looking for..

I found this book really difficult to follow and it is more about how other people do it... I didn't like this at all.

The production of this book is terrible. The print is glossy, which is hard on the eyes. But worse, the font is terrible. The font is comprised of broken letters that make it look like a bunch of insect droppings or something out of a mimeograph machine or something typed with a very bad ribbon. Trying to read this, I felt like my eyes were being pulled from my head.The writing itself is sorta good. It is interviews with sponsors about what has worked for them. I would have like to read further, but the book is unreadable because of the way it was printed. Sorry to write this, but what were they thinking, does nobody in the production chain of event know how to produce a readable book.
