I should have bought it sooner
This is a great concept of a bird feeder. I cannot believe I never heard about it before. It really makes my life much simpler. The seeds shells really end up mostly in the tray under the box. The birds, budgies, had little trouble to get the seeds or the first day so I was thinking to cut bigger hole to the horizontal guards. But I'm glad I didn't. It's more challenging for the birds this way and they figured it out very quickly. The tray is just too small and the budgies will fill it in two days. Then, when it's overfilled, it will spoil the shells when trying to slide the tray out. It would be good if the tray was deeper.Over all, the whole feeder is very cheaply made but it works great. The lid is hard to attached and you'll have to use some force to make it hold.

Best hooded feeder to counter nasty bird behavior
I have a flight cage with seven rabid parakeets. For a long time, I've kept two food trays in the cage. The birds would fling food everywhere. There would be a thick pile of uneaten food at the bottom of the cage and a ridiculous amount of seed husks on the floor around the cage and strewn about the room (even though I wrap the cage like a mummy using five seed guards). It was so bad that I had to vacuum the entire floor of the room every day.I was surprised to find so few options available to solve my dilemma. Most of the hooded parakeet feeders are designed to attach to the outside of the cage. This creates a couple of problems. First, the feeder needs to be the same width or larger than the side door that must be opened to provide the birds access to it. Second, if a feeder is attached to the outside of the cage, then this will compromise the use of any seed guards. Beyond these considerations, most hooded feeders allow birds to enter the box holding the food and defecate in it. This creates a lot of food wastage. This feeder solves all of the above problems. I bought two feeders and placed them in my birds' flight cage. So far, the mess outside the cage has been enormously reduced though not entirely eliminated. Whereas I previously needed to run a floor vacuum around the room, I now just need to vacuum in one area at the base of the cage using a cleaning attachment. There is no better feeling than frustrating a bunch of angry, messy birds! The trays that catch the seed husks filled up partially after two days but were easy to empty. My only potential concern at this point is that the birds could chew the feeders since they are inside the cage. However, my birds never chewed the plastic food dishes that were in there previously. In totality, this feeder is pure genius. Parakeets are violent, filthy animals, and this feeder is designed to counter their bad behaviors. If you are dealing with multiple parakeets in a single cage, then I highly recommend buying this feeder.

too much negative items to review with limited space.....dont waste your money
Ready... spent 40 years on the plastic injection molding business.....we did custom products that we build per the customers drawings...along the way we would advise if they wanted a cheap product to go to the molders on the other side of town... this feeder had bad engineering, causing the part to be to thin and warped so much that the mating part would not fit....my wife gave it to me and I couldn't make it fit either... poor grade of cheap plastic...how much regrind looks like too much...too fast of cycle time...drill a hole for the screw but they left a huge burr in the inside that would have to me cut off...drill speed too fast and melted the plastic....life of this product is max 6-12 months ? This makes me be a lot more careful as to what I purchase on Amazon now. with a made in China label ,should I even have thought abought buying this... Now hard lesson learned...I have to go to a pet store and open a box and look at the next one to avoid running into this mess again.. sorry folks 2 thumbs down...I wish I had more thumbs.

Update; my birds and i love it
Update 5/19:Hi, after 24 hours using this feeder i am about to go ahead now and order another one.the birds right away took to this feeder and the amount of waste on the floor this reduces is like 99%. i could not hang it on my F040 cage door as it didnt fit and id does not cover entire opening but my previous feedr was just sitting on the floor of the cage so this is not a mhor concern for me. i hanged it inside the cage next to a perch (this feeder does not have a good perch). works like a charm, i liek it and as i said i'm about to order another one.My original complaint that only one bird at a time can eat from it still stands (i did see once in a while another bird jumping on it but most of the times they fight over it as there is not enough space for 2).pros outweight the cons. 4.5 stars.Original review:item is very expensive compared with the quality, it looks land feels very cheap.I dont like the color of this feeder (its not clear), it only has place for one parakeet at a time (if anything).its very uncomfortable for the bird to eat without any adjustmetns.great concept, i will try it out for a few days and see if it reduces seed mess , but would probably return.again i applause the concept but it needs a little bit of fine tuning.

Works as intended for food source while away on work trip!
I got this feeder to ensure my green cheek conure would have access to plenty of food while I go on a 2-3 day work trip in the near future. I didn't know how quick she would use these but she immediately went in it after I installed it. Yay!!Read on for cons and my reasoning for the rating...Cons:1. There were zero instructions, had to look at pictures from the website to figure out install. Took away a star on overall review2. It was advertised as able to install inside or outside the cage but mine only came with one hole to install on the outside of cage at an access door. Took away a star on overall review3. Material feels flimsy and parrots/birds that are destructive chewers will more than likely destroy this pretty easily. I have a couple of months to see how my GCC will do with this feeder before my work trip - if she decides to start chewing on it I will have to remove because she could possibly chew herself out of the cage since I can only install it on the outside through an access door. Took away a star on "sturdiness" option of review

Birds love
My birds love their new feeder . The top is easy to come off so becarful of that . Its easy to clean as well . If you have a cage that allows it to hang outside of cage it would be better but on the inside works just as well.

I've just bought my 3rd one!
I've just bought this product for the third time. This one is for my brother's birds. I love how we can install this outside the cage so it takes no room away from birdy. However I do have to customize it to fit in between the cage's wires as it it too big to fit in one one the feeding doors. It is worth the trouble. It really minize the mess and it is so much more affordable than the acrylic ones. I'm very happy with this product. I will buy again if the occasion presents itself..

Excellent feeders.
I love these feeders for finches and canaries but not for anything bigger. You would need to get a bigger one.

Terrible product; Terrible Quality
This is a horrible product and a waste of money. It is so poorly made that it does not fit together properly. or stay secure. While it has a list of birds it's applicable, for including canaries, finches and parakeets, the food really just pours out into the main area, then falls into the bottom part. Since it doesn't connect properly, you either end up wasting seeds and pellets or it will fall apart and dump the bird food all over the cage.I'm so disappointed. I had high hopes for this product.
