I used them to successfully repair some leather walking shoes when a section of the uppers had come unstitched. You need to have an idea how stitches are formed because it comes with no instructions but this is not a problem as using Google and U tube you will soon find better video clips than any printed instruction sheet.The needles are all robust and strong but I would have preferred some finer ones, as if you try to stitch close to the edge, as the original stiches on the uppers were, then the holes will burst out. I adjusted my stiching to suit but this is why I've gone down to 4 stars.The set included a good selection of strong waxed thread in 3 colours which I would describe as neutral, brown and black. For delicate work on shoe uppers or say gloves you may prefer something a little finer to go with the finer needles, but I was very happy with the results on my walking shoes.

This is a value product for occasional repairs. I wouldn't buy for Substantial use.I couldn't get the main sewing needle into the handle. I think it was designed this way as the other spikey attachments had a different end that does fit in.I do not know how long the handle will last as it seemed a bit flimsy. Maybe OK for clothing and handbag thickness of leather. It might be struggling with saddlery thickness though.

Although I needed to watch a couple of instructional videos first, so as to not make a mess of my very decorative knee high boots, this did the trick perfectly once I understood how to use it! I will say that it did NOT arrive with the thread as advertised though, I had to buy thread separately.
