Do you strip the melted black plastic from the contacts? If so, how?

I took my soldering iron and carefully removed the black coating.

They work very well in my Mazda Miata

How do you connect speaker wire to these? There just black plastics like tabs where you would typically connect the wire.

You have to solder wires to it. You'll need a low-heat soldering iron otherwise you'll melt the contacts and destroy the speakers. You'll need really small wire, 18 AWG max, run it through the hole for a good mechanical connection, heat the wire with the iron, and melt the solder with the wire, not the iron--again, don't heat too long, it won't take much heat to melt the solder, then done, you'll have a good electrical connection
