Disappointed
The book sounded great. But, after I received it I realized the following things:1) there are not pictures for each recipe2) there is no nutritional info—aka no indication of calories etc.3) the recipes have many ingredients4) some of the ingredients are uncommon millet flour, collagen powder, and cassava flour5) there is not a table of contents of the recipes.Because of all that, I’m returning the book. The book has nice quality pages and photos. Just needs to be fine tuned a bit.

Beautifully presented and addresses all the current “hot”
issues in the food/diet scene today. “What The Heck Should I Cook” could save many folks from the need to buy the companion volume, “What The Heck Should I Eat”, due to the fact that the 1st third of this book recaps that one. It includes the details of Dr. Hyman’s “Pegan Diet” - a mash up of the best parts of the Paleo and Vegan eating philosophies. The remainder of the book is devoted to 100+ recipes across every facet of your meal from appetizer to dessert, breakfast to lunch, holidays, brunch, soup and just about anything you can think of. These recipes are not simple or quick and the ingredient list can be daunting. I live in the northeast and have access to lots of designer stores and products so with a little preparation I could manage. My sisters who live in N. Georgia would be hard pressed to prepare 40-50% of these recipes and that’s too bad. My youngest sister has severe celiacs disease and could really use both the recipes and the reference material this book has to offer. It would have been very useful if the author had provided a substitution list and a sourcing guide.Meat is not excluded from all of these recipes but what is used is suggested to be the healthiest possible. This applies for all the ingredients used. Raw, non-gmo, organic, the food looks delicious in the photography, the people partnering with Dr. Hyman are “pretty people”: Giselle, Gwyneth Paltro, Tom Brady, Dr. Oz...it’s all designed to entice. This is not an inexpensive way to eat up front but the health benefits should reap financial rewards that will be quantified many years down the road📚

Dr. Hyman is one of the GOOD Guys! His approach is very sensible. Beautiful Book!
There are many Doctors and others who have books out about cooking and nutrition. I find it all very, very confusing. Having been a Vegetarian for half my life, then a Pescatarian on a Keto path, I am always on the lookout for new recipes to keep me on a healthy eating path. I think in the confusing sea of primarily plant based doctors giving advise, Dr. Hyman is a breath of fresh air. He seems to walk a middle path on the subject, but stays true to what is the most healthy way to eat for most people. I am glad that he came out with a book that addresses a lower carb eating style, as this is very important. As someone (me) who has always eaten GOOD Carbs...but continued to gain weight, I did not know that what I was eating was making me fat, even though the other plant doctors were saying to eat lots of fruit, beans, rice, starchy veggies. This was not a good fit for me. In the past year, I lost 80 pounds eating Lower carb/Pescatarian....and love it. I do however wish Dr. Hyman would have included more vegetarian/Seafood recipes in this book...but I am sure the meat recipes will appeal to many! Thank you Doctor Hyman, for taking the middle path in all the crazy nutritional information out there. Bottom line is that not every diet/way of eating works for everyone, but the foods Dr. Hyman recommends are spot on.

"Food is Medicine" - this cookbook helps!
After reading Dr. Hyman's Food: What the Heck Should I Eat a couple months ago, I think the immediate thought in my head was "great! Now what the heck should I cook?" Hilariously, I received an email not less than a month later and counted down the days until I received it.Got it yesterday and skimmed through most of the recipes with my husband. My husband is a notoriously picky eater, but even he gave nods of approval for certain dishes that I'm excited to try. For those who really want to get down to business about eating healthier and feeling better - this is the book to get. I will say that some of these recipes appear fairly radical and if you're used to conventional unhealthy ingredients (like I totally am) it's definitely going to be a challenge. Luckily, I have no children and a husband who is at least willing to try things before he ignores them completely, so this cookbook will prove useful; however, I'd say for those who have very picky eaters in their household this may not be entirely helpful. Also, you'll be using ingredients like cassava flour, pepitas, millet, cacao nibs and more which necessitate a nearby natural grocer or an online account with a natural/special foods site, so keep that in mind before you buy. That said, as Dr. Hyman says, "food is medicine" and simply engaging with this cookbook to see what works and what doesn't is an important first step to building the best pharmacy for yourself and your family.

From breakfast through to desserts, we can nourish our bodies daily eating fresh wholesome foods.
I pre-ordered Food: What the Heck Should I Cook by Dr. Mark Hyman after reading his book, Food: What the Heck Should I Eat. An overview of his food philosophy is included in the cookbook. Food is Medicine. From breakfast through to desserts, we can nourish our bodies daily eating fresh wholesome foods.I appreciate the clear, easy-to-follow recipes, made with normal everyday ingredients, to provide healthy, nutritious foods for me and my family. I find it a plus that items I have made actually look like the beautiful pictures in the book.

Recipes that I could use for my family
I did not find many recipes that my family would eat or that sounded good to cook. I would definitely have to change my whole cooking thought process as well as my grocery shopping list. I guess I am just not there yet....so I am returning the book

Very down to earth cookbook, which is helpful when you lead busy lives
Just received my book & have gone through all the recipes & I'm glad to say they all look very doable. I live in the UK in London & can see that all the ingredients are accessible & easily sourced. I've taken off 1 star only because all the food recipes are designed for 4 people & I live alone, so will have to try to adjust accordingly. Love the intro part of the book as it gives tips in layman terms on how to eat a healthy balanced diet, without too much effort. I own many cookbooks & usually end up not really using them. However, with this book I just can't wait to get stuck in. I might be a bit biased though as I am a great fan of Mark Hyman & often watch his podcasts, which are very informative about health from a functional medicine point of view. Well, I shall be trying some of the recipes within the next few days & will give an updated review.
