A POV, found footage horror film from the perspective of America's top genre filmmakers. A group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house in the countryside and acquire a rare tape. Upon searching the house, the guys are confronted with a dead body, a hub of old televisions and an endless supply of cryptic footage, each video stranger than the last.

Sticky Bun Anyone ?
well first of all you break into some ones home (like you do) then you sit yourself down on the couch and start watching there video tapes ?( I was waiting for them to find an old wedding video or one of those embarrassing videos staring uncle Bob you know the ones the family know about but don't usually talk about ) but on this occasion strange things started happening , like the girl who broke in with this guy is left alone for a few minutes in the living room and when he returns she is suddenly found convulsing on the floor ( maybe the owner came back unexpectedly and caught her eating the Jammy Dodgers ) we may never know any way it is a strange film with plenty of blood for all you Vampires out there personally I could Murder a pack of Jammy Dodgers.

Great film, lived up to the hype
I only heard of this film a few months ago and liked the sound of it. It lived up to the hype, for me. The framing sequence is effective, the first story is very good, the second is slower-paced but has a better quality picture and a great ending. The third story is weird and i couldn't quite understand it but it's still effective. The fourth tale was the weakest for me, but the final one deliver. Great film overall, and i look forward to seeing the sequels.

Found Tape Horror that really works.
Yes we are all getting a bit tired with 'found tapes' type films but this is sort of different. First a group of really unlikable hoodlums are hired by an unknown third party to break and enter an isolated house (they are usually isolated with no phone cover aren't they) where they have to steal a VHS tape, they are told they will know which one it is. Once they get inside the house they discover the corpse of an old man in an upstairs room facing a bank of televisions. Then they discover that there are quite a few VHS tapes in the house already and will either take the lot or sort through them. Well they start to play one and it is a found tape itself which ends in a nasty way, still unperturbed they put on yet more and the footage gets worse. This is different as I said as it has been written and directed by 10 different people, this reflects that all the tapes are mini horrors in their own right and they are all pretty much seasoned in their art both the writers and directors. The concept also allows for the quality of the camera work etc to change and yet never affect the continuity of the actual plot. The various `tapes' are segued perfectly by the goings on back in the spooky house. It is scary in places and I found myself saying `turn the lights on already' on more than one occasion as the on screen victims seem to have never heard of a light switch. Still that is par for the course and all adds to the fun. There is a fair smattering of nudity but none of it really sexy and bordering on gratuitous some could argue. Some scenes are hard to watch which is a very good thing for a horror film and it has been so well received that a follow up, imaginatively called `VHS 2' is already out in the USA. A must for most horror fans - recommended.

cult classic yes it is spawns two sequals so far V.H.S 2 and V.H.S viral both equally good and better
This has become something of a cult classic leading to now two sequels V.H.S 2 and VHS viral both of which learn from some of the flaws of this film. This is a film that has self contained horror stories within a overarching story about a bunch of small time crook friends searching for a tape which someone wants them to steal at an apparently empty house but the real gem is what's on the tapes themselves each one is a very clever well directed self contained horror story excellent quality keeps you entertained throughout later on more Is explained about the tapes in sequel's it affects you if you watch them and of course each criminal does, recommend if a horror fan or anthology horror fan very good I think V.H.S 3 viral is the best so far and the stakes in the films get bigger better budgets.

Nice idea
I do like anthology stories but struggled to not turn this one off, each story had a nice idea but was badly executed and the "payoff" you could see coming.I get the VHS retro feel and the cheap look of it but it just didn't gel for me, shame as I was looking forward to seeing this but on the strength of this one I won't be searching out any others in the series.

Not as good as some of the hype
Weird collection of events with some pretty good sections.A group of oddball yanks end up in a derelict house with a dead man slouched in front of a television and surrounded by video tapes. It all develops from that. The footage they view on these tapes seems to drag them in and become somehow real.Boring in places.....yes.Good in places.....yes.Some well constructed horror it has to be said.

VHS misses the mark...
As retro as VHS tries to be, it's hard to get into it. In the days of VHS we didn't have spy camera glasses and Facetime. The effects with which VHS cuts and distorts the video also does not reflect the nature of real VHS recordings.
