This is a very well built hose reel. Easy to install and functions much better than my old Craftsmen reel. Highly suggest you spend the extra money on the EZ version.

Smooth operation & controlled retraction

Item received in decent shape despite weak cardboard box and packing materials. Installed and connected to air source without issue. Upon initial use the “EZ retract” feature worked as expected. Hose reel retracted in a slow controlled manner as advertised by manufacturer. Hose and rotating assembly had no leaks and I was looking forward to many years of trouble free use. After about the fifth or sixth use however the slow retract mechanism apparently failed and the retract speed was fast and uncontrolled just like the cheap import reel (still working after 7 years) that I replaced with this unit. I bought this unit specifically for the slow retract feature as I expected it would free me from having to hang on to the hose while retracting as I had to do with my older reel unit. It did so for just a short while. Now the unit works just like the inexpensive import unit it replaced, although at a price point several hundred dollars higher. Live and learn.

The media could not be loaded. First, the packaging. Mine came just fine. I did not have the side housing break through the box. This comes attached to a small piece of wood, inside a heavy cardboard box, and then inside a second heavy cardboard box. It's not super packaging, but very good.The EZ slow wind feature costs about an extra $100. It's totally worth it. Watch the video. I pulled the hose out a full 50 feet, gave it a tug, and it is slowly pulling itself all the way back it. If you've ever seen a typical air hose yanked and let go, it whips and snaps back with great force. It's actually dangerous. This extra feature is money very well spent. And I'm not helping the hose along with my hand. It's just gently reeling it in by itself.In the video to the left you can see the swivel bracket I got to go with this. It's a well spent $55. It lets you turn the reel out of the way when you don't need it, and you can just turn it back when you do. It also turns the reel so it's always playing out the hose in the easiest fashion, which makes the hose much easier to pull out and easier to retract.I needed a 3/8 to 1/4 elbow street reducer to connect my lead-in hose to the reel. I also used a lead in hose with a swiveling end. I got both here on Amazon. The reducer was about $7 and the Flexzilla hose about $18. The hardware to connect this hose to your wall or ceiling or whatever is NOT included, and it's suggested you buy pretty beefy nuts and bolts. This thing weighs about 50 pounds up on the wall with the hose.This is an American-made reel designed to be used hard day-after-day in a business for decades with not a single breakdown. For a homeowner it's way more than I needed, but someday I will give it to my son and he will then give it to his son, and it will still work well. Suck it up, pay the hefty price tag, and enjoy a really great tool.

The slow retract only works for the first few feet then stops retraction. Adjusted to maximum force per the instruction and still doesn’t work

I got this for my auto shop. I've heard good things about Coxreels, hopefully it'll last many years. It's solid and works well in its first few days. I've heard of guys having them for 15-20+ years. I did some research after buying it also and interestingly there's a hose reel from Lincoln Industrial that looks identical to this but is $150 less--might be worth a shot.

I purchased the same model in the past and it worked excellent for us. The second time I ordered one it wasn't the same even though I went to the old item and clicked to purchase this item again. The second time I ordered I didn't get the slow retracting reel which was a feature I really liked about the first one. Of course we didn't find this out until it was installed on the wall and piped in. I wont take it down and send it back to get the correct one. The first one I purchased was excellent, the second one is just ok because of the missing feature.
