Exactly what the title says... the bible for everything dog
This book is a great reference for any dog owner that wants a solid overview on everything dog related. It contains 10 sections:The dogs in our world (covers domestication, genetics, and personality)A new dogLife with a dogBreedsHealthDaily careTraining & behaviorDogs & workGlossariesResourcesThe various chapters:Dog genetics & developmentDogs in religion and folkloreDogs in popular cultureThe history of dog rescue and welfare (also covers spay/neuter topic)Dogs and the lawThe problems surrounding dogs (spay/neuter, abuse & neglect, unethical uses, puppy mills, breed specific legislation, etc)Is a dog right for you?Choosing a dogKids and dogsFinding your dogBringing your dog homePet care partnersEmergenciesLost dogTraveling with your dogActivities you can do with your dog (agility, flyball, and herding aren't the only ones mentioned!)End of lifeBreedsMixes and designer dogsEstablishing a health care regimenInfectious diseases and immunizationBasic health careThe dog body and health careA lifetime of good healthChronic diseases and conditionsDiagnostic tests and techniquesGroomingThe complete guide to feeding your dogCanine communicationSocializing your dogTraining your dogProblem behaviorsDogs who workCareersGlossaries include the following topics:Breed pronunciation guideDog show speakActivitiesMedical termsCoat color termsDog ear typesDog tail typesTerms in breed standardsGrooming toolsAs you can see from the section and chapter lists, this book is pretty comprehensive in breadth of topics, if not as detailed in the depth each is covered. The book has full color pictures throughout and is printed on heavy paper (I do really like both of these points, as this book will get quite a bit of use). I particularly enjoyed the breed section, as it is one of the most comprehensive I have seen. Each breed gets at least 1/2 a page each, depending on the popularity of the breed it may get a whole page. The reference section is also useful with many suggested books to read. Often the insight the author provides on various topics is very relevant and helpful. Another handy part of this book includes items suggested for a doggy first aid kit which is a good place to start for building your own kit, although the list is by no means comprehensive depending on what you do with your dog and where you plan on going with your dog. The chapter discussing socialization of your dog/puppy does a pretty good job of suggesting ways to improve your dog's socialization.Overall this book does a great job of covering everything doggy you could think of. (I'm sure there is something that is missing, no book is perfect, but this one covers most things I could think of...) Five stars and two thumbs up!

DOG BIBLE COVERS IT ALL FROM A-Z IT'S A FANTASTIC RESOURCE
My other Dog Bible is over 20 yrs old . I just about wore it out. I sure they have updated by now. It explains in detail what you need to do on a emergency , explains what the Vet said, so you can understand. It covers from A to Z drawing , pictures, poisonous plants, caring, grooming, health, skin teeth, issues, bloodline of dogs , how they did it. A Doberman came from I believe it was 8-9 different breeds . It's really a fantastic book. It kelp me from making costly Vets Appointments.

This book could save your dog's life
My husband and I own thousands of books, and yet somehow didn't own a general book on dogs. When we recently lost our beloved Sheltie, it was time to get one. Thanks to your reader reviews (to which I now add), I got this one. As critical as I am about books, I agree this book is exceptional. (Perhaps it might have saved our dog's life had we owned this book earlier, not sure.) It contains info all dog owners should know: info on toxic plants and foods, other health info. This book has handy side-colored sections on informative stuff: History of Dogs and Dog Careers. But also essential stuff: Health; Daily Care; Training and Behavior. I have highlighted and tabbed much of that. Much of the info is regarding new puppies (see section on New Dogs). Of course there's a section on Breeds, covering most of the 400 breeds but not the very rare ones. It gives GENERAL info on the groups and from here you could narrow down a breed for your next puppy or dog, and then research further. This book isn't intended to be a definitive work on breeds, just general info. (Of course there are more specific books on ALL the topics covered.) But if you're looking for a general info book -that could one day save your dogs life, good info I didn't know- this book is exceptional. Hey - I'd almost get it for the 600+ color photos alone! Or the small blocks of "little known info" I call friends/family and tell them cuz they're just too funny or interesting. I don't know how we ever lived without this book.

Disappointing. Not the book I was expecting
I expected more from this book. More about health, care, disease, etc. There’s a big portion on breeds if this is what you are looking for, but if you are looking for more detailed guidance on dog care, you are better off logging on to the AKC website.

Excellent book for people who have dogs
I got this dog Bible the first time about four years ago. And then I had a house fire it has taken me many years to get around to getting another copy and when I seen it on Amazon I purchased it again. It's a great book to go to when you have questions. Like when is the first time you should give a puppy a wormer and how many wormer said they have in the first eight weeks of their life. And how many vaccinations should they have in the first eight weeks of their life. And what should that vaccination be. Like distemper and parvovirus summation. Many puppies die because they're not vaccinated for at least these two and many more contagions.

Everything you ought to know
I am a new dog owner, never had any experience with any dog ever. So naturally I was a tad uninformed about the subject. This book changed all that. This book is an incredible resource. It covers every conceivable thing about dogs. From A to Z. Plenty of color pictures and charts. This is a great resource. So good it's worth it's weight in gold, to me at least. I learned so much. I took the time to read the whole dang thing--iyt took a while--and I know I will return back to it in the future as I need to. This is a great reference if you know nothing about dogs. You won't be disappointed.

Good
The book in itself is pretty good, lots of info, etc. Paper back lacks a little of the coffee table book effect. Would still recommend to a dog owner.

It's okay for first dog owners but not enough on it's own for proper dog training and housebreaking.
As a first time dog owner, I found the information wasn't detailed enough, especially for puppy training and dog behaviours. I had to get more information elsewhere to properly understand my puppy and how to properly housebreak my dog.
