Recommended by my Dentist to get a Truly Custom NightGuard
I am a heavy grinder and clencher and chew through night guards like candy every 3-6 months. Even with insurance, the cost was no longer feasible. On my own, I tried a higher rated guard, and got horrible headaches, so back to the dentist I went. He explained the other was too soft, clenching, neck movement, etc but conceded it made no sense for me to keep spending $ at that rate and rec'd Sova with adjustment to the Sova mold.So I purchased, took it into his office, and he showed me how to cut it to fit just my upper front teeth (slight over-bite=guard on upper teeth).Perfection! I save over $360 each time and the most recent one made it exactly 6 months b/c i was able to reshape it twice, so the savings really is greater...no headaches, no money spent on repairing chipped teeth, durable guard with CUSTOM fit. Thank you, Dr. Snow!!Molding for custom fit tips/considerations:Keep in mind the intent of a guard is to prevent your back teeth (molars) from making contact, so a guard doesn't have to wrap fully around each tooth (front & back)...I have big horse teeth, so truly notI heat water in microwave (not recommended) for 1:38 minutes, drop the guard into the H20 and take the wee bowl into the bathroom immediately with a butterknife (I prefer using that bc I have more control to prevent overlap and sticking). Once the guard is clear, I use the butterknife to pull it out then wait a few seconds for my fingers to be able to touch it. Using those divots to line up the guard to my front teeth positioning it at the half point (horse teeth), I then use my fingers to mold the guard around all of my upper front teeth not worrying about whether or not it wraps around my back teeth. I simultaneously suck out air, use my fingers, and tongue until it mostly hardens. Then I pull out my handy dandy pair of scissors, and trim the guard to fit only my front 6 teeth. (Edit) I then dip it back into the warm water to soften the guard just a bit and reapply to my front upper teeth. Using my fingers, I customize the shortened mold more appropriately to my teeth. Works like a charm and guard objective met: back molars not grinding or clenching, front and bottom teeth protected, no headaches. You can use warm water or a silver nail file if you need to round out any edges. This process sounds tedious, but if you eat these like I do and need to save the $, it is well worth it. With time, tis a breeze; end to end this now takes me 5 minutes. I've had the same Sova for 9 mos now!I clean my guard with my toothbrush when i brush my teeth in the morning...tis super easy, takes a couple of passes and pops back in the case or I spritz with the Sova spray or soak in the Nat. Dentist mouthwash when I'm lazy.

Ignore the 1-star reviews. This is the BEST night guard for you if you're a heavy grinder!
So, it seems like most, if not all, the 1-star reviews are from those who had trouble molding after following the instructions on the manual. The manual says to dunk the night guard into a 140°F hot water but from my experience, the water needs to be hotter at about 200°F and you need to leave the night guard in the water until it turns completely transparent. When the night guard turns completely transparent, it should feel like a jelly and that's when the night guard gets real soft to make that perfect mold to your teeth. Manual does not state this and I feel like that's where many people are getting it wrong by only following the instructions.FYI, I am now on my 7th SOVA night guard because it's the only night guard that can withstand my severe grinding of the teeth. I've tried about 4 different Dentek products which I completely tore apart within a week. SOVA night guard also provides the most comfortable fit inside my mouth. I was drooling and barely able to speak with bulkier Dentek guards but this SOVA guard is barely noticeable when I close my mouth and I can speak normally with the night guard on.SOVA is, by far, the best solution for serious, heavy teeth grinders like me.My teeth grinding was so bad that I had torn apart 4 different Dentek night guards within a span of 5 months. Not only were those Dentek night guards too weak but they were also bulky and uncomfortable. However, this SISU night guard is very thin as they can be molded to perfectly fit your teeth. I can even speak with this night guard on that my wife can't tell if I have it on and still tells me put on my night guard before coming to bed when I already have it on. This night guard also has little holes throughout so it prevents saliva from being stored between your teeth and the guard.I used my first SiSU night guard for almost a year before getting the second one. The first one still looks like it can be used as it still is not broken but it turned yellow so I got the second one for sanitation reasons. It comes with this nice case.
