Magnificent Homespun Brown: A Celebration

This is such a beautiful story with a poem flow. The illustrations a beautiful. Everyone should have a copy in their child's library... Or your personal library.

My entire family LOVES this book. My daughter is 10. The poetry and artistry is amazing. What I loved most about this book is my daughter connected so deeply with how nature was depicted. From the clothes to the activities, to being at home. When I moved to Maine many, many years ago I noticed how children, libraries and stores were very connected to Maine authors for children's stories. Dr's. even gave out children's books by Maine Authors during well visits. As we loved the children's stories by Maine authors, never once have we come across a story depicting beautiful shades of Brown girls by a Maine Author. This book should be in everyone's collection. A must for all children. I would recommend this book for adults as well as a reminder of the beauty in the world that is Magnificently Brown.

Children of color will hear their skin celebrated and compared to everything brown and beautiful in the world around them. They will hear how their skin connects them with nature and with family. In classrooms where we too often pretend color doesn’t exist, students can hear this ode to their skin through poetic verse. I cannot imagine anything more important.

My daughter loves this book so much. The poetic language and gorgeous illustrations are such a treat. The best part for us is she gets to see herself in the story — her different moods, activities, hair styles and her beauty. We brought one into her classroom and the teachers and kids were loving it. This should be in every school library.

I love the illustrations in this book. The text is excellent, also.

This book is a wonderful celebration of brown skin. She uses beautiful, cozy, imagery that brought me back to sights, smells and tastes that I have also cherished. My boys also love it (ages 6 and 8).

It looks like a lot of love went into the creation of this beautiful book. The text reads like poetry and the illustrations are truly magnificent. I especially love the hair texture in the image of the girl savoring sweet honey, and the expressiveness in the image with the girl leaping into a pile of leaves. Every page is a delightful celebration of everyday joys!
