Treasury of Illustrated Classics 36 Book Library Hardcover – Box set, January 1, 2003

My son loves these books. Abriged to fit the early reader so he doesn't get bogged down. There was a duplicate in the set but it's still a great value.

This series is very misleading because they don't have any information about it being abridged on the cover. We mistakenly bought this book thinking that it was the UNabridged version and even Amazon does not show the "adpated by" author! Annoying and totally misleading.

This is a great collection for young readers. We bought this collection a few weeks ago and my daughter has already read 2 these books and has started the 3rd. She's seven going into second grade, so these books can be enjoyed by even the youngest readers. The typeset is a little larger and there are several sketched pictures along the way. These books would also make great read-alouds for children who can't yet read by themselves.

For early readers this gives them a chance to read some classics and a desire to read the full book later.

This is a great collection of generally well-edited classic English-language novels. I have been reading them for my pre-school-aged children before bed for the past 18 months and we have thoroughly enjoyed them. We'll be finished reading the whole collection in a few months. With the notable exception of "King Authur and the Knights of the Round Table," these abridged versions for children are very well done. The black and white illustrations are more suggestive than detailed, but they are numerous and enjoyable.The paper quality is mediocre, so don't buy this set as an heirloom. And I've occasionally found typos in the text. But overall this set is a great way to introduce children to the joys of good literature. The best part of the set is of course the stories themselves. On many occasions, I can't stop reading, and end up finishing the book by myself after the kids go to sleep!Despite the few minor drawbacks noted above, I'm very pleased to have purchased this for my children, and would buy it again in a heartbeat! Very high performance/cost ratio.

These are great read-alouds for younger kids 9-4 year olds. But make sure they read the original as soon as they are capable.
