A Life In Pictures.
A beautifully presented book from one of Scotland's greatest artistic polymaths β Alasdair Gray.Witty, humorous and beautifully illustrated, Gray offers up a biographical account in pictures of his own artistic development including nods to the friends and colleagues who were/are his contemporaries (there are some illustrated examples of the work of Alan Fletcher, for example).A lovely and extremely entertaining book to leaf through, absolutely crammed with visual treats in the form of drawings, paintings, murals and graphic work.I am fortunate to have the hardback edition and would thoroughly recommend this option as it's likely to be well perused by all who pick it up.A really fine volume; an essential purchase for anyone interested in this nationally important artist and for those who value good figurative art.

An important book about an important artist.
Gray is arguably the most important artist of his generation. I live in the area much of his work is informed by, and although I'm a few years younger I recognise much of the Glasgow he describes, both in his honest and skilful painting and his equally honest literary work. I don't know him, although we've met on a couple of occasions, but I was thrilled to find a portrait here of a recently deceased mutual friend. It is a brilliantly insightful piece of portraiture from the hand of master. Gray tells us about a Glasgow that has been relentlessly crushed by local political ambition. It is a link with a time when a genuine art scene flourished outside of the machinations of local political approval. An important record of a once great city, a still great mind and a great hand at work.

Life experiences
Having met Alasdair and been a friend of his sister, Mora, and her husband, Bert, for almost 50 years, I found the book very interesting and the pictures were fantastic. Such a talent with words, drawing and painting are rare to find and will be appreciated by generations yet to be born. I will value and treasure this book.

A Life in Pictures by Britains Picasso
This is a unique and fabulous book. If you are not familiar with this artist then you will be amazed to discover Britains Picasso. Very high quality and so very well packaged and presented. As a gift for someone who would appreciate an excellent reference book for Gray's work or even as a coffee table book this would be an excellent choice. I am proud to own this book.
