Chock full of myths
This book had just about all the answers , although quickly , on all myths. Egyption, Greek , Roman, Asian and Norse. There was also tales about King Arthur, Charlemagne and more. It would be a great reference for use in study of myths or even ancient people.

A Must Have
BULFINCH'S MYTHOLOGY is THE classic introduction to ancient and medieval myths. In three volume's, Thomas Bulfinch recounted and referenced classical stories of Graeco-Roman gods and heroes, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Norse and Hindu mythology, the Arthurian legends, Robin Hood, the Mabinogeon, and the tales of Chalemagne and his paladins. All three volumes are combined here in a single book. Besides making great reading on their own, these tales, and the values and ideals that they illustrate, are at the very heart of western literature and culture. Shakespeare, Milton, and most of the other icons of English literature drew on them repeatedly. The modern fantasy genre has its origins in this material. Tolkien was inspired by it. They are "must" reading for anyone who aspires to be considered "educated".There are just a couple of negatives here. The particular edition I have has a lot of typographical errors in it. There were such things as a sentence beginning "She..." when clearly it should have begun "The...", for example. Further, one can find fuller retellings of specific stories in other places. These are minor points, however. Bulfinch is still the classic introduction and source for mythological tales. Plus, as I said, it's great fun. Most people can profit from Bulfinch. Fantasy fans should especially love it.

Excellent Reference
The key is recognizing that this is more of a reference book rather than something that might be read through straight for enjoyment. I think many of the other reviews recognize that as well. This book is very useful in our home school. We have a classical leaning in our home school and that means studying Greek and Latin and even the role of Gods and Mythology in ancient history. I also have a son that likes to learn about the myths and the ancient Gods and Goddesses. This is the book we often turn to for more information. For being on the kindle and being free, its an excellent book for a great price. We are not sorry to have it in our library.

I love mythology and have started adding to my collection
I love mythology and have started adding to my collection. I had a small but very thick paperback of Bulfinch's Mythology given to my as a teenager. Unfortunately, it went the way of all well-worn paperback books and ended up as a torn, yellow- page, wrinkled heap lying in my bookshelf. This large edition, also paperback, looks great on my bookshelf. It will take several years before this one will have to be replaced. Who knows-it may even outlive me.

Bulfinch's 3 volume - great bargain!
My son is hating these just about as much as I did when I was his age. Buy them for your kids and if like me, they'll hate reading them too!Seriously, this is a great value and if your high school son or daughter is required to read these then you can't go wrong with this three volume package. Amazon saves you money and you get all three.

My daughter's review, not mine
I bought these books for my daughter. She needed them for a class. Try getting an understandable summary from a 15 year old regarding something she didn't want to read in the first place. She would have preferred I pull her teeth.

Awesome
This book was recommended to me by a friend. For any mythology fan this book is a must have. Contains pieces from Greek/Roman, Norse, and Arthurian Mythologies. Not an easy read but well with it.

Written by a storyteller it seems.
As a person who's struggling to write a novel, but seeking inspiration from history - both recent and ancient, Thomas Bullfinch's work comes as a surprise inspiration. The language and tone of the book is in the form of mini-stories laced with some general opinion and connectives to modern opinion without losing the sense of engrossment a set of short stories might propose. I'm only some several chapters in, but I love it.Great for anyone who fell asleep whenever the subject of Greek / Roman mythologies came up in school, but has now found a deep resounding regret and wishes to recoup and revive their fragmented knowledge.
