Spear & Jackson 7159BS Razorsharp Advantage Secateurs, Bypass Pruner, Red & Blue

Mislaid my old trusty Corona pruner in the woods. Ordered a newer replacement Corona version that looked like a good choice--new ratcheting action. A sour disappointment. Deficiencies too numerous to list. I also ordered the Spear & Jackson as backup in the same order. Wow. What a difference. I've used this thing for literally thousands of cuts on hardwood branches as thick as an 3/4 inch and roots thin as a millimeter. Still sharp as on day one. The blade locks/unlocks with flick of the thumb, fits easily into a hip pocket. Cuts 5/8" & 1/4" irrigation tubing with ease. Seems impervious to wear. Bright red color makes it easy to recover if set aside in deep forest weeds. Worth twice the price.

Excellent tool and sharp out of the package. Bought this tool to work in heavily branched areas where jaw width and cutting leverage was important. This tool met and exceeded my expectations. I agree with the other excellent reviews. Will buy another for back up.

This tool did everything everything promised and at a great price. It was invaluable for the project I was working on. I used it a lot, but I don't believe it lost it's sharpness.

Used for cutting Screen Tight components. Didn't realize there were different kinds of cutters and this worked perfectly for my purpose.

I should have known that with a plastic "anvil" (the surface against which the blade contacts) that this was a bad decision. Within a couple of days light usage, the plastic broke near the rivet which holds it to the body of the shears. If you do purchase these shears, don't twist while cutting as this places the plastic anvil under stress, causing it to crack. This is not a heavy-duty shear. A better option with a metal anvil is the CHILI Tools 8" Pruning Shears, also on Amazon (and which I've purchased before and has lasted for years).
