Includes everything but the convertible
Rather than a summer road trip, I think the fall is the perfect season for pleasant cruising, beautiful scenery, and less crowded places. So I got How to Road Trip America to give me some fresh ideas, latest technology tips, and inspiration for my upcoming road trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains to see the fall leaves, etc. I lucked out on my timing, as I note this book just came out. I am starting to pack based on the book's great tips and am reminded how much I enjoy taking interesting travel photos (the book is full of them). This book far surpassed my expectations of a 'guide.' I think it will inspire people who are a 'maybe' to just go for it and plan your own road trip adventure. All you need now is a classic convertible...I'm thinking of buying one just for my trip then selling it when I return. I'll post a pic if I do!

Simplifies road trip planning so you can look forward to and enjoy the journey!
I received this book as a gift and I couldn’t be more excited! The experiences, tips, and tricks the author shares are truly insightful. I’ve been guilty of choosing to fly to a destination instead of driving, but after reading this book (just once so far!) I am already planning a road trip up north to visit family. I will definitely be utilizing the tools provided within this book for years to come.

Can’t wait for my next road trip!
This book has a little of everything, from quick background history lessons, to personal stories that go along with the travel advice. It kept me intrigued & lit a fire to plan my next trip. Which won’t be a problem now that I have everything from Packing lists to Play lists. I loved this book!

Excellent and insightful read!!
Excellent excellent book. Brought back memories of my child hood when my dad and I would do long road trips and gave me some amazing tips and tricks for my family that is growing. My wife and I are going to Italy this month and plan on renting a car and this book has helped me create guidelines for the trip. Thank you Jon for this amazing book!

A great how to book!
Our family recently got into the whole road trip thing and this book made our last road trip so much more enjoyable than the previous 5. Not only was the book informative but it also had some humor, pictures and personal stories from the author. The book even includes talking points and thought provoking questions to make your road trip more interesting.

Information, inspiring, fun, creative!
Great book! Super informative, fun and creative. Filled with questions to inspire personal thought and self reflection if on your journey solo, or promote conversation with a group. My favorite part of the book is the section on mindfulness. Definitely worth purchasing :)

Jon has written a true road trip handbook for everyone!
This is the perfect book to keep in your glove compartment. It's packed full of simple and practical tips that will make your life easier the next time you head out on the open road. For instance, he writes about the importance of taking a break from driving every 2 hours in order stay fresh and alert (part of his "26 Commandments of Roadtrippin'" in Chapter 5). As simple as it sounds, implementing this one tip alone is worth the cost of this book. I recently took an 11 hour road trip (which Jon recommends only 8 hours a day) and I stopped every 2 hours for a break and stretch. I felt so much more alert and present than when I've previously tried to "push through" to make the best time. Here are a few other highlights for me:* Chapter 4, "Roadtrippin' Through History" was really interesting and a good reminder that taking road trips is still a relatively new experience... it's easy to take that for granted.* Chapter 5 is one to bookmark for long road trips when boredom sets in and you've run out of things to do. He includes a helpful list of conversation starters and self reflection questions if you're traveling alone.* He's even added a full packing list for traveling with pets, and lists for those of us who always feel like we're forgetting something.* The full color pictures throughout the book make me want to get in the car and drive this weekend! You rarely see full color pictures in books these days, so it was a nice change of pace.* In Chapter 7 he breaks down how to plan the best road trip based on your goals and themes. I love this idea because I've always thought of road trips as jumping in the car and going to make the best time. Jon helps me think about how I can make the most out of the experience and live in the moment.* Chapter 8 is my favorite because it just makes so much sense. He writes about distance ratios based upon how may days you have - How far you should travel, how much rest time to build in, etc. Again, very simple advice that makes a HUGE difference in the quality of your trip.Whether your a seasoned road tripper or your getting ready to plan your first long trip, there's literally something for everyone in this book. You can read it all at one time, but it's truly a go-to reference guide with timeless tips that you can use for years to come.I'm already planning my next trip armed with many of Jon's road trip "commandments" and hacks in mind!
