Good Middle Price and Quality for Spyderco
I like Spyderco knives and have a couple of the Byrd level, which have served me well. I have looked at the top line of Spyderco and frankly I can't see spending almost $200 for a folder, or simply a pocket knife (Yes, I do know the opening system and premium steels are a plus). So a friend suggested I try the Tenacious and for the money I think this is a great knife. It is a reasonable steel using 8CR13MOV stainless that holds an edge pretty well, it opens smoothly and with little effort, and is about the right size for many tasks.I now have 2: the plain edge with FRN scales, and the partially serrated blade with G10 scales.I like both equally well for specific uses, but will say the FRN are my preference in scales for the more aggressive grip. As to blade type: serrated if cutting rope, paracord, etc (the length of blade makes either section enough cutting surface to be useful), and plain edge for most work either way.Big deal here is value for a good level of quality and performance (I will hand it to Spyderco that they make quality stuff at all price levels). And I consider the Tenacious for price, purpose, and quality to hit that sweet spot for me. I do recommend Spyderco, at whatever price level you choose.

Sharp knife with ergonomic, rugged construction.
Before being shipped to me, my knife, while in its "presentation" packaging had been immersed in water and sealed into a plastic wrapper. Despite this abuse, and while the packaging was a total loss, the knife itself came through with flying colors. The edge is still sharp enough to thin slice tomatoes. I can detect no marring of the blade itself. The opening and closing action is smooth. The locking shim easily moves out of the way to allow folding of the knife. The handle is well shaped and textured to ensure a solid grip even when wearing heavy, insulated gloves in cold work places. Blade length is a personal choice, but this one was exactly what I wanted for this knife. For the meticulous, numerous photos show that the knife has a hole punched in it with a vertical edge directly behind that line. Measuring from that edge immediately behind the hole, the top of the knife is 3" long. Along that edge, the knife is ~1.25 inches deep. Along the cutting edge the knife is ~3.4 inches long. The folded knife itself can easily be placed in any pant or shirt pocket.

Great EDC knife
I find this to be a good and comfortable size and weight for EDC. The signature round hole is easy to open with either hand. The blade takes and keeps a good edge. After a couple years of daily carry the clip loosened up… but tightening the 3 screws re-secured it well, and truthfully, shame on me for not doing that periodically anyway.

Spyderco rocks
Love the knife, but I have a smaller one made out of the same exact steel also SPYDERCO but for some reason, this one doesn’t hold an edge like my smaller one does.I would buy better steel (twice the price) just to get a better knife but these are good for work if you are someone who abuses or occasionally misplaces your knife.

Excellent EDC option
I’ve carried a Spyderco Tenacious for 6 years as my EDC knife, and I love it, with one exception: the G10 handle is too slick to safely use in a wet situation. When I saw the new lightweight with what looked to be a more textured handle, I bought it to try it out, and it is exactly what I was looking for. The Tenacious knives are very solidly built and can take a beating. While the edge retention is not the best I’ve ever encountered, it stays sharp for a while with moderate use and is easy to resharpen.I’m a big fan of the open-spacing design which makes cleaning a much easier task. The liner-lock is sturdy and is another prerequisite for me in a pocket knife. Spyderco’s thumb-hole is also very nice to aid in one handed opening without adding the bulk that a thumb-post adds. While it comes with a pocket clip, I prefer to takes these off my knives and just carry them in the bottom of my pocket. This is easily accomplished with a small Torx wrench, which can be found in kits very cheaply at the hardware store or on Amazon. This is an excellent option for everyday carry. For an inexpensive price you get a very sturdy knife that will serve you well for years. I highly recommend it.

Spyderco Tenacious
The knife came sharp out of the box. It’s definitely worth the $57 I paid for it. Definitely a nicer knife that I expected. I highly recommend this for a beginner or budget knife.
