Dark red cherry colored wood.
Boiling is slowly helping but I'm concerned about whether or not I get out all of whatever is giving it such a red cherry color. I plan on putting it in my planted guppy tank so there's where my concern lies. It is a nice piece otherwise, great size, shape and all. I'm currently close to the end time of boiling and then I'll submerge it for the next few days as instructed.

BEAUTIFUL!!!
I am not someone who often writes reviews however I had to say something about this piece of driftwood. I was stunned on how beautiful it is, I know that sounds strange, we are talking about a pice of wood but I will be using it to display jewelry so It did need to be nice. I never expected it to be truly beautiful. Thank you.

Misleading product picture
This thing is barely 11 inches. It’s not a branch it’s like a twisted stump. Very disappointing. It is just barely the length as described, nothing XL about it. I’m not going through the hassle of returning it because it technically meets product description. I probably just got a crappy example.

Will darken your water
Look great but heavy on the tannins. No matter how many times you boil it. It will still turn your water brown. My tank still looks good so it's not a complaint.

Will not stop releasing tannins
I received this product on November 7th and boiled the wood for nearly 24 hours, then let it soak in water in a bucket that I kept changing every 2-4 days. The water kept turning brown. Eventually on December 7th I couldn’t keep waiting to set up my aquarium so I put the driftwood into a new aquascape I set up. I can tell now after 5 days the wood is leeching tannins and I don’t know if it will ever stop. My PH doesn’t seem to be going down either (which would be ok for the fish I want to keep). So it’s discoloring my water but not really providing any other water benefits. I wonder if this is Malaysian driftwood….Either way, the variety of shapes I got was great I just hate that the tannins never go away. Should’ve heeded the other reviewers. If you don’t mind the tannins, then this wood is very sturdy, no problems with yucky white fungus and great shapes for nano aquariums.

Beautiful Piece of Driftwood
Very happy with the purchase. The details of the wood are beautiful. Fits nicely inside my 8x8x12 spider enclosure. I purchased the large size.

Can be used for fish tanks or decoration!
The drift wood is so pretty! I was going to put it in my fish tank, but I made this little air plant sand garden! I’ll just have to buy another!

It’s a beautiful piece, BUT
If I knew it would take me WEEKS to boil dump, soak, dump, boil, repeat over and over, to get the very dark purple color out, in order to put in the tank… I would have NEVER purchased this. My item is one of the very smallest. I feel for those of you who have LARGE tanks and get larger pieces, you, will never see clear water for months. Please don’t waste your time or money. Update : it’s been over a MONTH and I have had to take this out of my tank. It literally won’t stop making the water a dark brown. It’s so frustrating. This is a scam for your money. Don’t do it.

Reasonable size, great figure to the wood.
Updated Review: Purchased the XL this time after having trouble finding a suitable piece at the LFS's. Again I took a gamble, but as I was so pleased the first time, I took the chance. Large shampoo bottle for size reference in my shower (about to soak it to release tannins).I'm blown away, I absolutely love the look, colour, shape, size - everything. Such a unique and interesting piece with many hiding spots for shrimps and fry as well as places to attach water column feeding plants (Epiphytes like Anubias, Buce, etc).Stunning!!Original Review: Great shape and figure to the wood I received. While boiling/soaking it released some tannins, but nowhere near as many as most driftwoods I've dealt with. Unfortunately it did not 'sink' immediately, but after boiling and soaking for a few hours it began to sink. The piece I received appears to be part of a root/rhizome system, which is perfectly fine with me. Many people are unaware that some of the most commonly used aquarium driftwood is actually mangrove roots. Roots are perfectly suitable if they've been cured properly - speaking of;I boiled this piece in a large stew pot in the garage for 6 hours, then soaked it in water treated with aquarium water treatment (commonly sold as tapwater dechlorinator) for 3 days, changing the water out when it took on a lightly steeped tea colour. After that, I boiled it once more for 6 hours and then slowly dried it in the oven on very low for several hours. After this process, the driftwood is now sinking, 90%+ of the tannins have been removed, and I know for certain that the piece is clean and sanitary (free of any spores/bugs/etc) for placing in the new aquarium.Do understand that there is some 'gamble' involved with purchasing wood online, all I can say is hope for the best but prepare for the worst! lol

Excellent value!
These are good quality and sink straight away. Soak in a bucket for a few days if you don't want the tannins.
