build your own Star Wars toy
I've been getting back into model making recently. I built Bandai's excellent 6'' R2-D2 and C-3PO, but I hadn't gotten any ships from The Force Awakens yet. Unfortunately, Bandai's ship models are difficult to get in the U.S. due to a licensing dispute with Disney, so I decided to try Revell's out offerings. The Resistance X-Wing might just be my favorite variation of the X-Wing, so I decided to try it out.First of all, this is only a model in a very loose sense. The pieces aren't attached to a rack so there's no cutting required. All the pieces snap together very easily. In fact, the entire construction took less than 10 minutes. So I wouldn't really recommend this for anybody looking for an involved build. In terms of difficulty, it's probably suited more to younger kids. That said, the final product is a really nice version of the X-Wing. The ship is over 8 inches long, and unlike Hasbro’s X-Wing this model uses nice, hard plastic (these laser cannons won’t bend) The ship itself is very detailed. The wings expand so the ship can go into attack formation and the cockpit opens. The interior is quite detailed, but sadly there’s no figure. Best of all - and this was a surprise to me - the ship comes with pretty good sound effects! The model comes partially prepainted, at least the major features like the blue stripes and the cockpit hatch. However, I admit I was a bit disappointed in the lack of weathering. I understand that Revell probably needed to keep down costs (and the retail price for this model is very reasonable), but it just seems so central to this ship. I decided to add a black wash, which I think brings out the detail and gives it a "used" look. I’m very happy with the way it turned out. I might add some more carbon scoring and streak marks like I’ve seen in the promotional photos, but I haven’t decided yet.The ship unfortunately isn’t entirely accurate to the film because the tips of the laser cannons are sideways. Although I’m disappointed, I can’t say it takes away too from the model. I wouldn’t even have noticed if another reviewer on Amazon hadn’t pointed it out. Truth be told, I actually prefer the laser cannons sideways. I realize this is reason enough for some people not to get the model, so hopefully Revell fixes this in the near future.Another (tiny) complaint is that the model doesn't include a stand. It does have landing gear, which works well enough, but a stand would still have been nice to so we could display the ship in mid-flight.If you're looking for a movie-accurate model/toy of the Resistance X-Wing, this is a good choice. It's certainly great value for your money. I remember getting the Action Fleet version of the Original Trilogy X-Wing during the 1990s. It cost about not much less than this, wasn't as accurate, and didn't have sounds, so the retail price for this kit is a bargain.

Great do-it-together project
I got this for my best friend's son, knowing he's a Star Wars fan. I build models and he likes looking at them, so I thought this would be a fun present for him and his dad to work on for an hour or so. Plus, he ends up with a toy (which is what he thinks I make) instead of a model for display-and-not-touching (which is what I actually make, unfortunately). It's less than 20 pieces, requires no cutting, filing, sawing, sanding, gluing, putty, painting, or other complicated craziness. Just follow along with the instructions, and in an hour at most you'll have an X-Wing resistance fighter able to move its s-foils into attack position and even play some sounds. The front landing gear also flips up, but the port & starboard skids are fixed.

Revell SnapTite X-wing: Review and some weathering tips
The Revell SnapTite X-wing is a very simple model kit with very good surface details moulded on. For ages 6+, it is just right for a quick build without the complexity of painting or gluing. For seasoned modellers, you may find that with some effort, it can look quite good. Here are some of the features I like about this kit:1) Surface details are molded on and panel likes are recessed - allowing you to ink them to bring out the details.2) The S-foil folds out to the distinctive X profile3) Very little to no gaps found when the pieces snap together4) Paint job is good5) Sound effects would appeal to those in the younger age range6) Good size - it is about 1/57 scale - bigger than Bandai's 1/72Here's what I thought could be improved::1) No pilots - X-wings spend most of their screen time flying around, so pilots are essential if you want to deploy the S-foild. Unless you want BB-8 to pilot it all the time.2) No flight stand - Again, no X-wings ever deployed the X-foils with landing gears, so a stand is essential to display it in flight3) The tips of the "laser canons" were oriented 90 degrees wronglyFor my build, I used Sharpie markers (gray color), Gundam markers and a Copic Marker Multiliner Ink Pen to weather it. I also twisted the tips of the laser canons to the correct position. Here are some shots of the completed X-wing and the tools I used to weather it.

its a great buy
it is a phenomenal build with a sturdy construction. it looks grate and i only have 2 complaints about it. A) the head for BB-8 is far to large and almost gives the ship a half cartoonish look. B) wen you pull the wings apart the top and bottom half of the body kinda come undone but i just got into the habit of pinching that wen i unfold the wings and it works good then.the things i like about it are many. 1) IT HAS A COCKPIT THAT OPENS! 2) it has 1/3 landing gear as the front "foot" i will call it folds into the body and the other 2 you must store separate and put on each time and then take it off. they have put to little "things" on the bottom which you can use as rear landing gear and i like that they don't take away from the ship. the 2 biggest things for any model vehicle i love are proper landing gear and an opening cockpit and this has both which i love and i would definitely get this for any star wars ship collection.
