If you like a lot of action then this is a game for you.
If you like an action packed fighting game then this is for you. I have just played a couple of hours and I can tell you for a fact that it has kept me on my toes more a less all the time. In terms of the price, we can all agree that it will go down as time goes on so if you on a budget then you can wait for black Friday or buy it on sale or something but I'm giving a review of the game. This game reminds me of the old school games that you can bash your controller and just have fun. The graphics are better than I expected and when ps5 comes out then damn it would be really nice. The controls are easy to get the hang of and overall this game is a solid game. And one of the best reasons to buy the CD version is that you can always trade it in to a shop like CEX and get some money back. This is my first Amazon review so please pardon me if it ain't great. You will hear mixed reviews about this game but as a marvel fan I can say it is really good so far.

Excellent story and action. An authentic Avengers experience. Some annoying bugs.
Marvels Avengers is an action-adventure video game inspired by a combination of the comics and Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story opens on A-Day - a yearly celebration to the Avengers - and you initially take on the role of Kamala Khan, a huge fan of superheroes with an encyclopedic knowledge of their world. As one of the finalists of a fan-fiction competition you have been invited to the event and attend along with your father.Unfortunately things take a turn for the worse when the Golden Gate bridge is attacked by terrorists, forcing the Avengers to respond, however the attack proves to be a distraction designed to lure the Avengers away from the Chimera Helecarrier where an experimental mineral named "Terrigen" is being stored. The Helecarrier is destroyed, with the Terrigen being released in gaseous form, destroying a large part of the city, killing thousands and mutating thousands more into beings with fantastic powers. In the aftermath of the destruction a public inquiry is held and the Avengers outlawed after they are considered a threat. In their place a new organisation called Advanced Idea Mechanics is created by one of the survivors of the disaster - George Tarlton - who promises to create a world that no longer needs super heroes to maintain the peace and protect the people, releasing thousands of robotic drones onto the streets as peacekeepers whilst interring those "Inhumans" mutated by the Terrigen mists in captivity for their own "safety" whilst secretly experimenting on them to create a new breed of programmable super soldiers and effectively creating a police state which the entire city now lives under. As Kamala you are hiding the fact that you too have gained super powers which you are hiding from your family, the public (who have developed an innate fear and hatred of super powered beings), and the authorities that are looking to incarcerate your kind. That is until one day you come into possession of secret files obtained from the Stark Industries servers on the day of the disaster that prove it was not the act of arrogance on the behalf of the Avengers that the general public believe it to be, but was in fact a deliberate act of sabotage by Dr Tarlton and his associates designed to give them free reign to usher in their new regime whilst removing the one group of people who could stop them. After your powers are outed whilst defending a boy in the park from a gang of drunken youths, you find yourself as an outlaw, on the run from the forces of A.I.M, and hit the road to search for the last suspected resistance cell in the hope of joining up with them, reassembling the Avengers and clearing their name, and stopping the real threat once and for all.Game play is presented from a third-person perspective and offers both a single player campaign and multiplayer options. The initial playable characters are Captain America, Iron-man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Kamala (Ms Marvel), with more to be added as downloadable content in the months ahead, including Hawkeye (Clint Barton and Kate Bishop) and Spider-man (PS4 exclusive) having already been announced. There are also a wide range of supporting characters that should be familiar to Marvel fans, such as Nick Fury, Jimmy Woo, Dum-Dum Dugan, Hank Pym and Maria Hill, as well as numerous well known Avengers foes such as Taskmaster and the Abomination who usually appear as end of level bad guys. Each character has a wide range of moves and abilities available to them, from basic light and hard attacks, take downs, ranged attacks, counters, and special moves, with some characters such as Iron-man also being able to engage in flight and air born combat, and the manner in which these moves work is unique to each character.Iron-man for example makes wide use of his repulsor technology and other armour systems, where as Cap favours the use of acrobatics and shield-slinging. Black Widow can utilize her firearms, widows bite, grappling hook, and electro-batons, whilst the Hulk uses pure brute force such as his "thunder clap" and ability to lift and thrown large objects or scatter whole groups of enemies with area effect attacks. Thor has a series of lightning and hammer based attacks, whilst Ms Marvel can "embiggen" herself and his enemies from range with her elongated limbs. There are a variety of enemies that you can face at any one time, from basic grunts (close and ranged combat versions), shield-bearers that require you to break their guard before you can damage them, flying drones, automated gun positions, and massive brute-type enemies that can soak up the damage whilst unleashing devastating attacks of their own. Combat is fluid and exciting with success usually being down to your ability to use the right abilities and powers against the right enemies, with numerous different enemies appearing on the screen at the same time. The first thing you notice about the game is just how good it looks. Graphics, sound, and voice acting are generally excellent, and a lot of effort has been put into the various environments which include many interactive elements that really enhance the feeling that you're living in the world of the Avengers. This is apparent from the first scene as Kamala walks around the Avengers fan convention participating in interactive games where she can attempt to lift Thor's hammer and fire Black Widow's wrist blasters in order to earn special addition comic books and get herself a VIP seat to the event. This is a level of detail that is maintained throughout the game in places such as Kamala's bedroom where you can view her Avengers posters and memorabilia as clearly as if they were on your own wall, or in her secret hide out filled with full sized cardboard cut outs of her favourite Avengers. Environments are also littered with Easter eggs and other collectables that only enhance the immersive experience.Prior to release there were concerns by some fans as to why the game was to rotate around Kamala's character. She's never appeared in the MCU, is a relatively new character, has never been a full Avengers member in the comics, and many people considered her a strange choice and made allegations of "pandering" in light of her status as a young, female Muslim - claiming that a character such as Spider-man would have been a much better and more organic choice. Let me assure you though that any such concerns are put to bed almost immediately and there is no doubt at all that Kamala was the right character to fill this role of young apprentice.Outside of the main campaign you can also access the "Avengers Initiative" from the main menu, which places you on a SHIELD Helicarrier and from where you can access things like multiplayer and the HARM (Holographic Augmented Reality Machine) training suite, war table missions that can be played either multi-player are single player with AI companions, and purchase upgrades and cosmetic items to change your characters appearance. As good as the story and game play are, the game is not without it's problems.First among these is the fact that the game requires a massive download and day 1 update before you can even play it. My game arrived late in the day from Amazon (1830pm) and then it was another three or so hours of updates before I could play the thing, which kind of makes a mockery out of pre-ordering so that you can enjoy a product on the day of release. It would be reasonable to criticise combat as repetitive, but I find combat such fun that even after several hours of shooting repulsor rays, slinging shield, and throwing hammers, I still find it enjoyable. Additionally, whilst you can get by through "button bashing" it's a lot easier and a great deal more fun if you actually take the time to learn each characters move set.If I was to make any criticism of the actual game play it's that there aren't enough actual super villains to fight. Sure, there's lots and lots of different types of henchmen to batter, but were talking about the Avengers! They have literally hundreds of great villains to choose from, the use of which could have propelled this game into the ranks of being truly excellent. What boss battles you do have are great, but just far too few and far between. There are plenty confirmed bugs too, including crashes on loading/saving screens, unlockables suddenly being locked and unavailable again, and a doozy of a glitch where your characters "fall out of the world" when accessing the Avengers Initiative menu, meaning at the moment I can't access that part of the game at all. The publisher is aware of most of these bugs and is actively working for solutions, so hopefully there will be a fix soon, but it's another example of a company essentially using it's paying customers as beta testers and releasing a product that isn't quite finished or hasn't been properly tested and is extremely frustrating.Another problem for me personally is that whilst the game doesn't exactly utilize the increasingly popular "pay to play" formula (you do have a fully formed game here), most of the extras require financial transactions and those transactions are not exactly cheap, needing to be paid for with credits that have to be purchased from the store. To put this in perspective 2000 credits is going to cost you £15.99 to purchase, but a single costume can cost anywhere up to 1400 credits to obtain, an emote 1000 credits, or a new move for your character 1200 credits. It's clearly a rather cynical system designed to keep fans paying for a game they've already shelled out a substantial amount for and intended to take full advantage of the fact that every fan has their own particular favourites, and potentially it's a game that you might never stop paying for - and lets be honest, a lot of those default costumes are a little bit sucky!Despite these faults you do have a really good game here that will only get better when they finally iron the creases out of it, and it's well worth a pick up if you're a fan of either the films or comics - just keep an eye on your wallet once you do!

Fantastic Marvel Game
After the Avengers game I was a little sceptical about this but it is absolutely brilliant and would highly recommend to anybody wanting a single player experience with a good story. The combat can become a little repetitive and you can only control Peter Quill but the soundtrack is fantastic and the character interactions add to what makes this a great game.

Avengers Assemble! (and get ready for the grind)
You would think that being able to play as a large part of the 'Avengers' would be the coolest thing ever, right? This is certainly a fun and entertaining experience that does a good job of giving you that superhero feeling but it is far from perfect and I can't help but feel that the Avengers should of perhaps assembled at a slightly later date.-----Story-----The story of the game is easily the most complete and enjoyable part of this superhero package. The game kicks off with you playing as Kamala, a hardcore Avengers fan, on board the Chimera as the Avengers hold a celebration of sorts. Within the first few minutes we're introduced to all your main favorites like Thor, Iron Man and Captain America and they are represented well in the game, each with their own personalities and great voice acting. Things soon start to go wrong however and then the game throws you into a frantic rescue mission where you play as each of the Avengers. This is a fantastic opening mission and really kicks the game off on a good footing.Overall the story is quite good and it has some really great action sequences and fights, along with excellent voice acting and dialogue (Nolan North as Iron Man was THE best decision for that character!) However, things start to get a bit shaky when the game starts dropping you off in these semi-open world hubs as part of the story missions. These missions are so bland and the open world is empty with nothing but small, optional objectives that are repeated throughout such as "kill this person for no reason" or buildings that hold chests containing loot that are opened by standing on a button or hitting switches. Hardly top-notch action and it really takes away from the game play during these moments. The game really excels during the missions where there's plenty of action and scripted sequences. Thankfully most of the missions flow well and there aren't too many negative moments but if I'm honest, it feels like the story was created by two different teams. One team that did the excellent opening and first few missions and final few sections of the game where the Avengers team up for some brilliant action pieces and dialogue, then the other team that just shoved these bland, directionless hub areas in with no explanation other than "do this thing because (insert generic reason here!)"The campaign, despite its faults, is what saves this game in its current state. It's fun, it has a decent length and generally provides the superhero experience that most of us were probably looking for. Unlocking new heroes to play as encourages you to keep playing and keeps the game fresh while adding more gameplay mechanics to learn so overall, it's a good experience mired only by some poor mission designs.-----Graphics-----Graphically, the game looks excellent. I'm playing it on a 4K TV with a PS4 Pro and, despite having a few pop-in issues and the frame rate stuttering briefly my experience has been great. Character models look detailed and unique, the various effects that occur during gameplay like Thor's lightning, Iron Man's beams and Hulk's, erm, smashing all look great! The various locations you visit throughout the game are varied enough and detailed enough to come through but there are few instances where you can see the team just copied and pasted a few assets to speed things along but this never really takes away from the gameplay experience. Again, the game really shines during those action-heavy sequences like the prologue where there's so much going on but you still feel part of the action.-----Gameplay-----The core gameplay of Marvel's: Avengers is a fun experience overall but there are a few problems I have with it. You can unlock and level up each of the six heroes throughout the campaign and then into the multiplayer. Levelling up is your standard XP grind but the game also uses a 'power level' like Destiny, to determine how much damage you deal, can take, and it's also used as mission difficulty so you can see if you need to power grind a bit more. The gear you find and earn throughout missions contain various stats that can boost your characters stats like melee damage, ranged damage and heroic ability damage as well as offering perks that allow you to further customize your experience and range in rarity from common all the way up to legendary. My issue with this is that (at least at this point in time) none of the gear that you find seems to actually be worth grinding for. Legendaries, for example, offer perks that you can find on other pieces of gear and although they might buff more stats that a rare or epic piece of gear, they certainly don't "feel" legendary. They also drop frequently enough to the point where you don't feel excited about getting one after a few. After a few hours of play you begin to realize that essentially all your gear does is provide a number in the top left of your screen that just determines how much damage you deal and not much else. The game eventually turns into a power grind where you spend more time starting at a number slowly going up than you do actually being interested in the gear you're getting. This will hopefully get tweaked in future updates because it's still very early on but at least for now, it certainly takes away from what is a mostly fun experience. The actual combat is where the game shines and thankfully it's a fun experience overall. Each of the heroes have different moves and upgrade paths that you can unlock and are JUST varied enough to tempt you into playing as someone else every so often. My personal favorite is Thor, because I love the character and being able to charge up and throw Mjolnir to pin enemies to the wall and floor never gets old. Plus he can shoot lightning, so, you know. I said the characters are varied, but only just. Although each character has different gadgets and nuances that you can use to help make the gameplay feel diverse, after you've played each of them enough you begin to feel that they actually play quite similar in most situations. Most combat areas can be cleared by spamming light and heavy moves, thus making character selection a bit redundant, and pretty much all the enemies react and attack you in the same way so you never TRULY feel like you can approach the combat differently with each character. This brings me onto the next section of this review - the enemies. To put it bluntly, there isn't enough variety and there are WAY, WAY, WAY too many ranged/flying enemies used in this game. The ranged enemies have incredibly annoying tracking missiles/projectiles which they happily spam and these stagger you so frequently that you very quickly learn that a single flying robot is infinitely more dangerous than that giant twenty foot mech over there. When the game begins to throw loads of flying enemies at you, even when playing as characters that can fly, they attack you relentlessly and you end up getting hit over and over by the many projectiles being thrown at you. It's not fun and they lean far too heavily on these types on enemies throughout the game. The melee enemies are slightly better and offer a bit more variety in comparison but against some of the enemy types, you may as well be playing as a wet noodle because it feels like your attacks do nothing and they can swing their arms around casually and send you flying. It really takes away from the fact that you're supposed to a superhero when an average enemy can walk up to the Hulk, punch him once and send him flying backwards with barely any health left. I understand that the developers didn't want you to be overpowered all of the time, but they've gone the complete opposite direction and made you feel like you're hitting enemies with a wet sponge in a lot of the combat situations, even after spending time upgrading and customizing your characters. More enemy types will no doubt be added into the game as it gets updated by at this point in time, the balance of enemies and enemy types needs to be looked at because it's troublesome. The side missions and activities that you can do during the campaign and after the story also suffer from the same lack of variety and design. Most missions are designed around "go here, collect this" or "stand in this circle and kill everything for some reason" which is fine for the first few times but then it starts to get a bit stale. Some can even be completing in 3-4 minutes with a semi-decent team online but even if you're playing solo there still isn't much to it. It's fun enough to run through these missions are the different heroes but they play out the same way literally every time and with the way the game is designed, you'll wind up playing these missions over and over in order to get better gear. Some missions contain modifiers that boost/reduce various things like projectile damage or melee damage which adds a very thin layer or depth but not by much.Outside of collecting gear there are other things to keep you busy, such as unlocking cosmetic skins for each hero, being able to find and unlock different nameplates, emotes and takedown animations for the characters. There's also daily and weekly bounties to complete for the various vendors around the game and these are fine because they give you something additional to work towards and allow you to rank up your faction allegiance. This allows you to purchase higher quality gear.To sum it all up, it might sound like I absolutely hate this game but that's not the case. There is a great foundation here that could be built on to create a fantastic superhero romp, especially when the team begin adding more heroes and items but as it stands right now, the game suffers from some bland and lazy mission design, frequently used enemies and the overall flow of combat is sometimes just a mashup of attacking and hoping you don't get downed. The core idea of the game is there and offers a great campaign experience overall but repetition and the power grind soon becomes apparent and THAT is the point where you'll realize you've already seen 80% of what the game has to offer in its current state. It's got promise, it IS worth a play but I wouldn't blame you for waiting for a price drop or a few updates to get this experience to where it should be!PROS+ Good campaign+ Great mix of humour and voice acting+ It looks and plays well+ Decent level of customization for each characterCONS- Often lazy and repetitive mission designs- Combat needs more variety and enemy types- The gear and power systems don't feel fully fleshed out enough, gear often feels pointless
